You might want to go check the data behind that map. Just at first glance I see something that is WAY off.

Who drew that up?

Is it a swing state and/or early primary state map?

I see several. Including a couple of omissions.

I laugh at the idea that a lower ratio of registered voters to electors makes your vote more important. That would make sense if electoral votes were assigned in proportion to the popular vote in each state, but that's not how it's done. A Republican's vote in California is really no more powerful than a Democrat's vote in Wyoming.

That's probably why NC is bigger than GA on Jelly's map (NC is more purple), though that map still doesn't make a lot of sense when looking at it that way.

They're proportional to the number of campaign stops per state in the 2016 general election. So, basically a swing state map - or states the candidates felt worth it to campaign in. More than half the states are missing entirely.

Georgia has 1 more electoral vote than NC.
NC had 55 presidential campaign stops. Georgia had 3.

What's better for the country? Having elections decided in swing states where the election is contested and voters are more likely to evaluate the candidates and their positions and vote accordingly or in high population states where voters are more likely to vote based on the letter after the candidates last name?

I'm not necessarily a popular vote advocate. I think both positions have merits and flaws and neither is perfect.

I don't agree that a candidates have to appeal to the less populous states "in a bloc" in the electoral college as was said in the post I responded to.

I think the electoral college made a lot more sense when there were fewer states.

A good way to do that is to post one instead of bitching.

Trump's a buffoon but why aren't you pointing out how immature Trudeau is?

That’s odd - I thought he was supposed to be a “death of democracy” threat in part due to his hostility to the media

Reading the CBC yesterday was funny - lots of comments from Canadian posters about how Trump was bad at math - Trudeau's probably done about 3 or 4 different kinds of faces, certainly more than just two.
