Because it's Sunday.
Sac County Sheriff said he isn't going to enforce Gov Newsom's mandate on masks.

Watching the heads explode of the people who were chanting "defund the Police" just last week because of his statement is quite comical.

The death rate graph reflects what happened a few weeks ago regarding spread and what’s happening now regarding therapeutic treatment. It will be interesting to see what happens to those numbers a few weeks from now. 3-5 weeks to see the new case load spike, and then another few weeks to see the number of deaths either correlate and go back up or continue to go down thanks to increased testing and improved treatment.kalm wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2020 4:27 amThank you. Yeah. It must be due to some reporting delays. But you would think that would make Mondays higher than the other days. But it appears that Tuesdays seem to do the catching up.
Either way, it proves that looking at a 3-day moving average is useless. The 7-day average takes out that issue.

Yup. Daily death rate has too many variables. Underlying medical issues, how long they waited to go in, when the death is reported, etc.CAA Flagship wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2020 5:58 amYeah. This has a 7 day running total of active cases. Like I mentioned above, if the death rate doesn’t correspond in a few weeks that’s good news (quarantining and recovery time notwithstanding).

1. Awareness. People seek help sooner.
2. Hospitals are not as overwhelmed, so they are accepting earlier infections.
3. Remdesevir use, and other forms of treatment such as proning, are helping save lives.
4. Many other drugs are being tested in trials. Those that prove to be successful are saving lives now.
5. The most vulnerable have been better identified and are being better protected.
The hospitalization numbers are a bit muddied. Remdesevir, and other drugs and treatments require intravenous administration or professional care. And with the knowledge that early treatment is best, and with available hospital capacity, I think today's numbers are not quite comparable to those in April (especially outside of the NYC region). Add the fact that many hospitals are still limiting their other treatments/surgeries, they are taking lower threshold COVID patients than before.
It takes at least 4 numbers to really analyze this; testing, new cases, hospitalizations, deaths.

Remdesivir finally made it to Minnesota last week in limited supplies. Dr's still have to triage it's use.

Except the hospitalizations. SC, Florida, Texas, Arizona are concerning on that front.
Here in WA, Yakima County has no beds and a waiting line for all admissions. They are trying to ship some to Seattle. They’d send them to the nearby Tri-Cities but Benton and Franklin Counties are in the same boat. Spokane’s numbers aren’t good either.
And this is where the economics comes into play. More treatable? Check. Lower death rates? Maybe. Regardless, each person who gets it is either quarantined for two weeks or if symptomatic, takes a month to recover before going back to work. With the vast majority of US businesses being small this extended rollercoaster ride forces more closings and unemployment.

Yep. Although outdoor spread appears to be considerably less (as Weinstein noted) and mask wearing, at least at the less rambunctious rallies was better than churches and bars.SDHornet wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2020 3:36 pmYup. I'm seeing stories popping up of the need for businesses to flush their water lines since the water in the pipes leading to these businesses has been sitting for several months. The bacteria that forms can spread backwards to the main lines.

Re: Coronavirus COVID-19
I follow several YouTube sailing channels. Mostly about cruising liveaboards and circumnavigators.
One channel is “Patrick Childress Sailing” and it features Patrick and his wife Rebecca who have been sailing around the world, slowly, for about 13 years. Rebecca owned and lived on the boat, and then she met Patrick, an experienced long distance sailor, and they got married and set off. Patrick was at least 60 and Rebecca looks to be late 50s.
Patrick is a real techie, and a lot of videos center around boat maintenance, which is what grabs my interest.
They have most recently rounded the cape of southern Africa, heading west. They hauled out for a couple months in eastern South Africa to do a bottom job and other maintenance on the boat. Their last video had them departing and heading to Cape Town. Then the videos stopped for a few weeks and I couldn’t figure out why.
Rebecca just posted a video - they both contracted COVID and had been sick for about 2 weeks. She said it was persistent and would not go away. She remained in a slow burn but Patrick got progressively worse. After TWO WEEKS with flu symptoms, they took Patrick to the hospital in Cape Town where they both tested positive for COVID-19. Then Patrick was admitted to ICU while Rebecca went back to the boat for 2 weeks of quarantine. The hospital then called her back to say goodbye because Patrick was dying. He had been sick for about 4 weeks now. He died a few hours after she reached his bedside, covered in PPE.
Dude was sick for a mo th and so was his wife, but hers didnt progress beyond coughing and fever.
This whole thing is personally sad to me. But it should also serve as a warning that none of us - NOBODY - understands this virus, its incubation, or its life cycle. It is likely not fatal for most people. But it is devastating for those who are vulnerable.
Our grandparents had food, clothing, and gas rationing. Their grandparents had typhoid fever and real hunger. What does it say about us that we can’t be bothered to just practice minimally inconveniencing precautions like wearing masks and staying away from people?

Flushing lines, especially those with a "dead end" is a typical maintenance practice...or at least should be although I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't to cut back on costs. Highly doubt bacteria from a house or business can go back into the main lines if they are properly flushed.CAA Flagship wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2020 6:12 am I'm seeing stories popping up of the need for businesses to flush their water lines since the water in the pipes leading to these businesses has been sitting for several months. Interesting take from a guy who hasn’t lived in this country for several years. You couldn’t get Pelosi, McConnell and Trump to agree that the sky is blue, let alone stand shoulder to shoulder (with proper social distancing) and proclaim COVID the enemy instead of each other.

But what does it say about us that statists think it needs to be legislated?
And what does it say about us that it just doesn’t require an impassioned speech from the President.. with the speakers of both houses of Congress backing him up?
It is just basic fucking decency that has been co-opted by these political cunts on both sides and I’m done with it. Common sense in America is verboten because it is racist, anti fascist, fascist, scientific, anti science, polluting, environmentally conscious, whatever your poison, fucking pick it
Politics in this country are poisonous and I am ready for a reset... in no matter what form that reset takes

I recommend the piece about China in the latest National Review, penned by my classmate Nick Eberstadt.

I’d name drop my classmates but it would be like Al, who runs the Westside community center in Spokane or Bridgette who takes your classmate’s wayward kids and grand kids on Outward Bound rafting trips.

One thing I remember about Nick was that you could smell him coming before you could see him. Brilliant dude, but in the early 70s personal hygiene was optional.kalm wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2020 4:45 pmAre there any journalists, politicians, pundits, or judges you didn’t go to school with?![]()
