That's what makes it difficult to state one way or another.
In the meme, if it was two relevant people that are being quoted, then the news IS the quotes. If you know for sure that you can shed some accurate light on the subject, then I guess it's OK to say so. But in today's poli-speak, there are lies and there are partial truths. And news journalists (as opposed to investigative journalists that have time to research) rarely have enough information sort things out.
