I agree. The only reason Trump has some chance of winning is that the Democrat candidate is Hillary and the only reason HIllary has a chance to win is that the Republican candidate is Trump. Both primary electorates pretty much picked weak candidates. When there were a bunch of Republican candidates in the race I was following how they polled against Democrats and Trump never did better than 5th by that measure. Most of the time he was down round 7th. When it got down to C r uz, Kasich, and Trump, Trump was 3 of 3. Kasich polled best agains Democrats, C ruz second, and Trump third. Meanwhile Sanders always polled much stronger against Republicans than Cinton did.

Both sides did their best to pick bad candidates. And here we are.

I realize that I am going to be accused of bias but, while I don't like seeing the Rasmussen poll results, It is not a highly rated poll and it has had the 5th strongest Republican bias historically among the 373 polls rated by 538. By "bias" I mean the extent to which a poll has historically tended to indicate that one party will do better than it actually does. The Rasmussen poll has historically been among the "worst" in terms of over estimating how well the Republican is going to do.

I don't dismiss it. But I'd be a lot more concerned if I saw some of the more highly rated polls indicating something like Trump being 7 points up that also didn't have a history of substantial Republican bias was like that.

I agree. The only reason Trump has some chance of winning is that the Democrat candidate is Hillary and the only reason HIllary has a chance to win is that the Republican candidate is Trump. My normally astute brown brother has dropped the ball here - they very much do have to worry about pandering to Bernie more than ever - assuming she can keep the super delegates from jumping ship she will need Bernie's supporters more than ever. That's why she sounds more like Bernie than Bernie does now and why she has suddenly flip-flopped on the TPP. She is running scared and you probably couldn't drive a straight pin up her ass with a sledge hammer right now. Its going to be mighty unseemly if it comes down to gaming the voting machines....

I look with most interest at polls that include Johnson and Stein because those two will be on the actual election ballot. We now have a number of polls taken after Comey's announcement and it looks to me like there's no indication that Comey's announcement hurt her much. Below how it looks. There is that IPSOS poll taken mostly before the Comey press conference that shows her up by 9. But for the most part if you looked at the overall results you wouldn't see any suggestion that there was a dramatic change associated with the July 5 Comey statement. That's good news.

bernie never had the super delegates in his corner, hence why bernie folded like one of those cheap suits he wears instead of fighting it out in the convention. The donks rolled some of bernies message into its platform but that is about all we'll see as far as appeasing the bernie supporters...and it will be sufficient to get about 80% of them to vote hilldog.
