So I’m willing to bet that you haven’t been to a restaurant since social distancing measures were introduced. :coffee: Some of you guys seem to be scared of your own shadows.
Just talked to a friend who’s a nurse at Spokane’s largest hospital. A regional medical center that serves 4 states. She rotates in and out of the Covid unit. As an example:
She said the organizers of the parties are purposely inviting guests who have COVID-19.

"They put money in a pot and they try to get COVID. Whoever gets COVID first gets the pot. It makes no sense," McKinstry said. "They're intentionally doing it."

In a briefing to the City Council, Smith expressed concern that in recent weeks there have been parties held throughout the city and surrounding Tuscaloosa County, "where students, or kids, would come in with known positive," according to a video recording of the meeting obtained by ABC affiliate station WBMA in Birmingham.

"We thought that was kind of a rumor at first," Smith told the council members. "We did some research. Not only do the doctors' offices confirm it but the state confirmed they also had the same information."

Just for take out. Mask are not required here, so we are not taking a chance with vulnerable family members. Some local restaurants have open and closed with covid cases.

Did go to a large funeral in a county with no active cases. Everyone acted normal, hugs, shaking hands etc. Open to kids, one is working at a casino, mask and temp checks required for employees and customers. Still do my biking, 30 to 40 miles on the weekend, public trails.

Trying to be part of the solution. Not a big burden for us.
That’s the whole point. We “ate in” at our favorite restaurant a week ago with social distancing between tables. Wait staff wore masks. Customers wore masks until they were seated. Assume some risks but be respectful. Now science teaches us that wiping off groceries is a massive, ineffective time-suck, so we stopped that.

Right. An example of unintentional spread. One of the servers at your restaurant which does everything by the book and who is responsible about social distancing and masks but happens to be a sibling of, or friends with, one of these douche canoes gets it....

So I've been away from CS for a few days and this thread is same old same old. CA re-shutdown again even though the numbers don't support it. New cases are high, but testing is x5 more than it was in April, positive hit rate has been relatively flat which tells me that those studies about the Chinese Flu being a lot more widespread in the public is spot on.

Oh and thoughts and prayers to those with loved ones with this virus.

Just talked to a friend who’s a nurse at Spokane’s largest hospital. A regional medical center that serves 4 states. She rotates in and out of the Covid unit. She’s now doing 15 hour shifts for 2-4 days then gets calls to fill in due to previous layoffs. Had to shut off her phone. She’s exhausted. Their ICU is now full thanks to overflow from Yakima.

I’m not so much scared of the virus although my wife is high risk. I’m disheartened by the selfish nature of people (including a few other friends in healthcare) who still insist on going out for beers and take unnecessary risks during a viral pandemic that is spread through socializing.

This is considerably worse than the vast majority realize and we are quickly moving past the point of controlling it even if we can cut the IFR in half.
British Columbia isn't a state. ;) Seriously, I would think that cases from eastern Oregon would be sent to Boise not Spokane.

I try and physical distance (I'm boycotting the term "social distance") from non-family members all of the time and wear a mask when in indoor public spaces. People need to understand that this is a lot easier and more convenient than another shutdown which is what will happen if this blows up again.

When I was in Golden, CO a week and a half ago, they had closed all of the parking along their main street and restaurants were using the spaces for outdoor tables. There was no indoor seating. People were very polite and contentious, wearing masks when not eating.

Your last two paragraphs...That’s what’s needed.

Spokane has long been a medical hub. Our Shriners hospital serves kids from Utah to Alberta. Places like Umatilla, Pendleton, Milton Freewater are closer to Spokane than Boise or Portland.

Would you rather be like France or Russia and Brazil right now? American exceptionalism!
That insult succinctly conveys the crux of the problem. American leadership has politicized the pandemic instead of trying to fight it. I see no preparedness, no coordinated top-down leadership of the sort we’ve enjoyed in Europe. I see only empty posturing, the sad spectacle of the president refusing to wear a mask, just to own the libs. What an astonishing self-inflicted wound.

On June 26, a day when the U.S. notched some 45,000 new cases—how’s that for “American carnage”?—the European Union announced that it would loosen some travel restrictions but extend its ban on visitors from the United States and other hot-spot nations. On Tuesday, it confirmed that remarkable and deeply humiliating decision, a clear message that in pandemic management, the EU believes that the United States is no better than Russia and Brazil—autocrat-run public-health disasters—and that American tourists would pose a dire threat to the hard-won stability our lockdown has earned us. So much for the myth that the American political system and way of life are a model for the world.

Because more people die or have long term health effects. They’re also equated to reopening businesses. Even the dumbass governor of Texas might be starting to get it.

You can't accurately compare case numbers chronologically or geographically unless you have a valid way to equalize for the percentage and the demographics of the population being tested.
