Yes, I'm worried about the national debt but I have no faith in trump doing anything to really improve it.
- trump 0.1: 19.9 to 27.7 trillion is a 39.2% increase in 4 years
- biden: 27.7 to 36.4 trillion is a 31.4% increase in 4 years

Denmark and Panama are allies. You don't take territory from your allies. If Greenland and Panama are vital to our national defense then we work with them to utilize and defend their territory. America is supposed to be the shining light on the hill not the evil bully waiting in the dark alley.
by the establishment of DOGE, the Trump administration has at least recognized the national debt as a problem. JoBozo and his mindless pack would never do that.
Will they use doge primarily to try and make government more efficient or will they use it to try and purge the more liberal civil servants from the ranks?

It's a fair question.

So ideological purges are okay?

Trying to limit/control how people think is worse than an attack on free speech.

You probably shouldn't use a Gestapo approach if you don't want to be compared to Nazis.

To many civil servants that don’t do a whole lot, not sure how they would target the liberal ones. Nobody was minding the helm over the past 20 years as Federal employees numbers were reproducing like rabbits … trim the fat

Do you ever look stuff up before posting?

The federal workforce was on a continuous downward trend from the 1950’s through 2010. Since then, it experienced an initial spike under Trump likely related to Covid and then small rise since under Biden.

And I’m not even sure if that takes into account general population increases. The higher the population, the more services and staff that are required.

There’s always places to trim but those tend to be unpopular policies as services are reduced for expecting tax payers.

3 million federal workers in a country of 330 million that spans a continent and projects world wide military strength doesn’t seem all that large.

I like the postal service, park service, EPA, BLM, medical research institutes, safe air travel, FEMA relief, CDC, NIH, military, infrastructure improvements…..

going up not down.... 20 years span is what i said

https://www.fedweek.com/federal-manager ... ince-2000/

Using data from OPM and elsewhere, the CRS put the year-end 2000 federal employment level at 2000, rising to 1.86 million and 1.92 million at the end of the two Bush terms, 2.1 million at the end of both Obama terms, 2.18 million at the end of the Trump administration and 2.26 million as of the end of last year.

In that time, the number of employees age 50 and above rose steadily, from 642,000 to 950,000, while the number age 35-49 rose from 839,000 to 905,000 and the number age 34 and under from 281,000 to 407,000.

I love the idea of giving Putin Dr Fauci as a condition of ending the war in Ukraine. If Trump pulls that off I can only dream about how the media slanders him and assaults him for ending the war, its gonna be glorious, glorious winning.

President Biden has overseen a nearly 6% growth of the full-time, non-seasonal federal workforce during his four years in office, including a jump at nearly every major agency.

The trend marks a reversal from his predecessor and successor, President-elect Trump, who helped shed workers at nearly every federal agency.

Exclusive: Putin growing concerned by Russia’s economy, as Trump pushes for Ukraine deal
Russia's economy, driven by exports of oil, gas and minerals, grew robustly over the past two years despite multiple rounds of Western sanctions imposed after its invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

But domestic activity has become strained in recent months by labour shortages and high interest rates introduced to tackle inflation, which has accelerated under record military spending.

That has contributed to the view within a section of the Russian elite that a negotiated settlement to the war is desirable, according to two of the sources familiar with thinking in the Kremlin.

Trump, who returned to office on Monday, has vowed to swiftly resolve the Ukraine conflict, Europe's biggest since World War Two.

This week he has said more sanctions, as well as tariffs, on Russia are likely unless Putin negotiates, adding that Russia was heading for "big trouble" in the economy. A senior Kremlin aide said on Tuesday that Russia had so far received no specific proposals for talks.
putin might have already won this war but the effort is straining the russian economy and putin doesn't hold all the cards.

Or trump pressured Zelensky into saying that in exchange for not cutting off Ukrainian aid.

And if the truth is that trump forced Zelensky to lie to bolster both the perception that the government is corrupt as well as his own fragile ego?

Is it me, or when Zelensky says that he doesn't know where 100 billion in aid went, he's really saying it went to weapons, but he cannot account for how much each weapon cost?

He didn't actually get 200b in cash, but some cash (77b) and the rest in services and weapons? Meaning that he got 77b in cash, but the rest was dispersed by the US, so he cannot account for that aspect.

Who’s dumber? Trump or those who support his every move?
Let’s swap alliances and trade with a 20 trillion EU economy for an 2.2 trillion dollar authoritarian petrol state. Brilliant economics much less national security implications.

But yeah…Ukraine started it! :dunce:
