I agree about Lavrov.
I'm not saying Trump has anything to do with our foreign policy blunders. I'm saying it's pretty fucking hard to say that there's any reason that he will be successful on a foreign policy front.
What can you possibly base that on objectively?

I'm saying I agree with him on NATO. Participation in NATO is not in our interest.

It's rare that we have any insight on how successful any candidate will be in foreign affairs. But if a candidate aligns himself or herself with past blunders, how can you expect success?Skjellyfetti wrote:

Since you'll spin me saying we have shown weakness into a question about how we should show strength, I'll go ahead an address that now.
We dissolve NATO. Pull out completely. We stop playing world police and putting ourselves into position where we can either shoot at the Russians or back down in the face of their own bullying. We don't draw lines in the sand in places like Syria where we have no intention of facing down the Russians. We don't put ourselves in a position to be in conflict with other world powers when the outcome does not benefit us.

Won't help, a certain set around here are convinced that saying anything negative about Trump means you're voting for Hillary. Maybe you should consider talking about a topic that is worth debate then. No sense bashing one candidate over a certain topic when the other is just as bad or worse.Skjellyfetti wrote:Did I miss where I was arguing for Clinton?CAA Flagship wrote: It's rare that we have any insight on how successful any candidate will be in foreign affairs. Re: Election 2016: Trump vs Clinton
"4 brutal poll numbers that greet Hillary Clinton at the Democratic National Convention
....1) 68 percent say Clinton isn't honest and trustworthy
That's according to the CNN poll, and it's her worst number on-record. It's also up from 65 percent earlier this month and 59 percent in May. The 30 percent who see Clinton as honest and trustworthy is now well shy of the number who say the same of Trump: 43 percent.
You heard that right: Trump — he of the many, many Pinocchios — now has a large lead on Clinton when it comes to honesty and trustworthiness.
The CBS poll, for what it's worth, has a similar number saying Clinton is dishonest: 67 percent.
2) Her image has never been worse
CBS showed just 31 percent have favorable views of Clinton and 56 percent have unfavorable ones. Even in Trump's worst days on the campaign trail, he has rarely dipped below a 31 percent favorable rating. Clinton has hit that number a few times, but her negative-25 net favorable rating here is tied for the worst of her campaign, according to Huffington Post Pollster.
In the CNN poll, the 39 percent who say they have a favorable view of Clinton is lower than at any point in CNN's regular polling since April 1992 — when she wasn't even first lady yet. Of course, back then, the reason just 38 percent of people liked her was because many were unfamiliar with her. At the time, 39 percent were unfavorable and 23 percent had no opinion.
Clinton's favorable rating in the CNN poll is currently 16 points net-negative. That's unprecedented in the dozens of CNN polls on her since 1992.
Gallup's new numbers on Monday — 38 percent favorable and 57 percent unfavorable — are also unprecedented over the course of Clinton's political career.
This also appears to be the first time ever that Clinton's image measures worse than Trump's. It does so in both polls.
3) Just 38 percent would be "proud" to have her as president
That's down from 55 percent in March 2015. Sixty percent say they would not be proud.
On this measure, she's basically on the same footing as Trump, whom 39 percent would be proud of and 59 percent wouldn't be.
4) Nearly half of Democratic primary voters still want Bernie Sanders......"

Re: Election 2016: Trump vs Clinton
Hillary will get a bump next week after all the shilling, just like Trump did.
There is a LOT of time until November though, and that favors Trump. The Dems have thrown everything they have at Trump, including slick Hollywood video from JJ Abrams throughout this convention and 40 to 1 TV advertising, so they have blown their wad. Everyone knows that Trump is a dick. They have for 35 years or so. And?
But Julian Assange has only just started the IV drip on the bag of Hillary lies and corruption that he has at his disposal. Get your popcorn ready.

I'll see your Assange and raise you the IRS (for an "October surprise" on Trump's tax returns).93henfan wrote:Hillary will get a bump next week after all the shilling, just like Trump did.

Tell me what in Trump's taxes will sway a would-be Trump voter. Everyone knows that rich people play their tax returns like fiddles in Texas. If anything, he can make the case that the tax code needs to be simplified. He already said in his speech last Thursday that he knows how to play the system, so who better to fix it?Ivytalk wrote:I'll see your Assange and raise you the IRS (for an "October surprise" on Trump's tax returns).93henfan wrote:Hillary will get a bump next week after all the shilling, just like Trump did.

Maybe that a lot of his income is coming from Russian-based sources (one rumor of late), or his self-proclaimed income isn't a fraction of what he says it is, or he's boning Lois Lerner on the side.93henfan wrote:Tell me what in Trump's taxes will sway a would-be Trump voter. I'm not going to argue the tax code with you, because that's not my specialty. However, remember that Trump hammered Romney about his tax returns four years ago, and now Mr. Staypuft doesn't think the same standard applies to him.93henfan wrote:Who the **** reports that on tax returns?Ivytalk wrote:

Re: Election 2016: Trump vs Clinton
I think everything comes down to the first debate. Everyone already has poor opinions of both Trump and Clinton, but what Clinton has going for her is that she has the background that would seemingly make her more Presidential. She'll be the favorite going into the debate, just as Gore was widely favored to mop the floor with W in their first debate. If Trump can handle that first debate and exceed expectations, just as W did, it would go a long way for him winning. Like you said, the Dems have spent a crazy amount of money to basically nothing on the GOP side (and I'm sure Trump will play that up too, that Hillary is the candidate of big money) and they haven't gotten any separation from Trump. If he can turn heads with the first debate, he could win this thing. If he gets momentum out of the debate, considering it's proximity to the election, I think he can carry that to victory.93henfan wrote:Hillary will get a bump next week after all the shilling, just like Trump did.

I hope she does get a bump. We'll see. I do not think the Democrats have thrown everything they have at Trump. But it IS a concern that they haven't done better with what they've thrown at him already because what they've thrown at him already has been pretty slick and also has the benefit of being completely true.93henfan wrote:Hillary will get a bump next week after all the shilling, just like Trump did.
