People that voted for Trump and still support him deserve this.

True that Sanders is not a Democrat. Also, I think that Clinton won the Democrat nomination because that's who most people who voted in the Democrat primaries wanted. It was not "rigged."

However, I do think Sanders would've beaten Trump. For as long as he was running he always polled much better against Trump than Clinton did. When he ended his run in June, 2016, he was up by 10.4 percentage points over Trump in the RealClearPolitics average for that matchup. At that point Clinton was up over Trump by 2.0 percentage points. I don't think there is any way Trump would've won States like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin over Sanders and I doubt he'd have won Ohio. Sanders wasn't under FBI investigation. He was not at risk of having a Comey come out 10 days before the election and drop a bomb on him

I think Sanders would've not only beaten Trump but would've blown him out bad.

During the primaries I opined that neither Party was going with its strongest candidate for the general election. I think the strongest potential general election the Republicans had was Kasich and the strongest one the Democrats had was Sanders. I think Sanders would've thumped Trump and I think Kasich would've beaten Clinton worse in the electoral college than Trump did plus he'd have won the popular vote.

BTW when Kasich dropped out in May, 2016, he was up on Clinton by 7.4 percentage points in the RealClearPolitics average. At that point Trump was down to Clinton by 6.5 in that average. You can pick any point in time at any point when Kasich was still a possibility and he polled WAY better against Clinton than Trump did.

Kasich really was the best candidate in that election. It's a shame he didn't survive.

Run Roughshod? Stamped out Democracy? Talk about a drama queen. Sanders had every opportunity to earn the nomination. No primary votes were changed, no caucus votes were changed. Clinton won because she didn't ignore the south during the primaries. And no, Sanders would have not beaten Trump - the GOP would have been crying about socialism, etc.

Yeah, non-essential:
The Trump administration on Tuesday said it has called back tens of thousands of federal workers to fulfill key government tasks, including disbursing tax refunds, overseeing flight safety and inspecting the nation’s food and drug supply, as it seeks to blunt the impact of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.

The nearly 50,000 furloughed federal employees are being brought back to work without pay — part of a group of about 800,000 federal workers who are not receiving paychecks...

All without pay. This is a disgrace for the Republican party. :ohno:

Nope. I've said all along, my job is about as non-essential as it gets, sort of like yours. I'm only in it for the big pay.

Good for Pelosi but its a half measure

She should have suggested doing away with SOTU altogether. It is a useless spectacle

But one day there will be someone in the office who she'd be ok with granting imperial powers to so I guess we'll still have a SOTU

I agree. I've thought for many years now that they should just have the President send a written report on the State of the Union to Congress in order to satisfy the Constitutional requirement. And, you know, make it an actual analytical report that just objectively describes the State of the Union.

Yes, I know it's a fantasy.

Well then-

Keep nominating candidates who run on that mantra and see how it works out for you

(especially calling non-Trump voters deplorables... that's a great formula)
