Man, this is a slippery slope. I get that it’s only targeted at the super rich, but once an idea like this gets ahold, it eventually and inevitably will wind up trickling down lower and lower on the income scale. Targeting UNREALIZED gains…..very, very bad idea. What happens when unrealized gains become unrealized losses?

It’s just like the idea they floated this year about getting access to every transaction that goes through your bank account…ostensibly to track those who are making income from sources they can’t track…in small bits and pieces. When there was blowback at the $600 figure, they said “fine, what if we raise it to $10,000?” It DOESN’T. FUCKING. MATTER. What the dollar amount is. HARD STOP. If that EVER gets implemented, even if it’s $1,000,000 threshold, it will eventually be lowered to a number that is worse and worse and worse off for the middle class and those barely scraping by, with tip money, cash payments, etc., etc. Once they normalize the concept, the $ will get continually worse. It’s what they do.

It’s the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’s latest initiative to make Hollywood more equitable and diverse—more woke—by changing the rules by which films are eligible for Best Picture nominations. Here’s how it works: Starting in 2024, producers will be required to submit a summation of the race, gender, sexual orientation, and disability status of members of their movie’s cast and crew. If a particular movie does not have enough people of color or disabled people or gays or lesbians working on the set—and what is “enough” will be determined by a knotty tangle of byzantine formularies—then that movie will no longer be eligible for an Oscar.

Not surprisingly, the plan is not being universally applauded in Hollywood. Critics say it’s invasive, anticreative, opens the door to privacy issues, and is spectacularly unfair to actors and crew members, who may want to keep their sexual orientation or health profiles to themselves, not to mention to producers and directors who have enough to worry about while shooting a movie than to be saddled with the thankless task of tallying up the identity markers of their creative partners.

I'm not sure how someone with that mindset could raise a healthy child even if it was a girl. The child is going to interact with and have male friends and might want to date males at some point in their lives. How would this parent handle that? And if they tried to avoid it by forcing their child to be gay, how would that be different from what straight parents have done for centuries?

Maher has figured out that progressives’ desire to control everything not only doesn’t work but also dooms the politicians pushing it. But he’s missing an important piece of the puzzle: local politics.
