I'm centered. There are Republican and Democratic philosophies that I agree with and abhor. There are people on both sides that I like/dislike. I probably tend to be center-right more than anything. I'm certainly more liberal when it comes to social issues but not so liberal that i'm going to riot when some gay man get's fired for wearing his Unicorn shirt to work or a He-she wants to use the girls bathroom.

And i'm pretty much against most forms of welfare, public and corporate.

I'm for all the government we can afford. I'm for self-reliance and tradition.

He commented on the left finding it "appalling" then stated that Comey seemed to have integrity. Hardly a lefty hair on fire over-reaction. Meanwhile, more than a few righties immediately came out with 'should've happened day one."

I don't disagree, at the end of this Trump could be very Nixonian. But we're far from the end of this right now. Investigations will continue, and Trump will need to appoint someone respectable enough to lead the FBI. I'm not sure he could nominate anyone and expect to get any Democratic votes in favor, but that's more a reflection of our political climate than anything else (both Trump's penchant to screw things up and Dem's reluctance to anger the alt-left with anything that looks like cooperation with Trump). I don't get the idea that the GOP Senate will allow him to appoint a rubber stamp. I would highly doubt there would be a special prosecutor. Again, Dems shot themselves in the foot on that one when they so effectively vilified Ken Starr and the office of special prosecutor, hence why we've only had one since then (Patrick Fitzgerald) and that was done outside of the now dormant statute. There would need to be such clear evidence of wrongdoing by Trump before a special prosecutor would be entertained and by then you wouldn't even need one anyway.

Also, besides the first paragraph, the other comparisons of Trump and Nixon (the inheriting of armed conflicts and the promise to end them, and the commitment to remake the Supreme Court) are pretty vague and general and could apply to many other Presidents. Heck, Obama faced those same issues and made the same general remarks and you could make an Obama/Nixon parallel if you really wanted to, or an Obama/Trump one too for what that's worth.

If I was advising Trump I would advise him to either promote from inside the building, or offer Preet Bharara the job.

Meh, I'd say Comey probably got caught in the crossfire of one of the most contentious political shitstorms in recent US history. There would have been casualties either way the election ended. If he'd pursued Clinton harder there would likely have been some Obama/Lynch backlash either overtly or quietly (may have happened anyway) and he may have been on to something with the Russian ties. I think the guy probably did what he had to in order to keep a job, which if anything points to some integrity issues in equally enforcing the law.

Comey effed up when he treated Clinton better than a common citizen by not seizing her server when they had reasonable suspicion that something was going on. I've said it before, but if any of us were under suspicion the FBI would have kicked the door in and seized our electronic records immediately, not allow us to personally parse the information and release it to them in chunks over 12 months or more. Comey did all but indict her at the press conference, but you can't expect Lynch to pursue charges when she and Bill were meeting on the Phoenix tarmac talking about grandkids

Hillary had an October surprise with the pussygate deal, Comey and the FBI somehow went through thousands of emails on Weinergate over a weekend but Clinton thinks Comey negatively impacted her. The Clintons shot themselves in the foot so many times her credibility was in shambles by early November anyway.

Were the Russians involved in the election? Probably, just as they likely have been for years. It would be a bit hypocritical of the US to cast stones for influencing elections. Was there collusion on the part of the Trump campaign? I have no idea, but if Trump and Putin are buddies they certainly aren't playing nice right now.

That being said, I think we'll be watching Pence take the reigns before the first term is out. Trump will either face impeachment for something or he'll get mad, take his ball and go home.
