I have no idea why SK was different, but obviously it was because that was in the 50's with no internet and no TV (at least there I'm sure). Who is going to give them internet? They don't have electricity, food, etc... in many cases now.
Exactly, SK had no internet and developed into the strongest Asian economy in one generation because capitalism. NK probably wouldn't be too different if given the infrastructure and support.

I honestly know nothing of Korean history prior to the 50's.

Pretty interesting Frontline on the assassination of Kimmie's half brother last night. Guy is more ruthless than his dough boy appearance suggests.

Ya think???
Kim Jong Un has executed over 300 people since coming to power
http://www.cnn.com/2016/12/29/asia/kim- ... index.html
Report: N. Korea executes officials with anti-aircraft guns for 'enraging' Kim Jong Un
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/wor ... /98468748/
In 2012, a North Korean official was executed by mortar shell for drinking during the 100-day mourning period of the late ‘Dear Leader’ Kim Jong-il. Kim Jong-Un demanded the official be ‘obliterated’ with ‘no trace of him behind, down to his hair.’

But for Kim Jong Un, the country's first leader to come of age with the Internet, the idea of a more wired North Korea is also attractive. It comes with the potential for great benefits to the nation from information technology — and for new forms of social and political control that promise to be more effective than anything his father and grandfather could have dreamed of. It also allows for the possibility of cyber-attacks on the West.

Pyongyang's solution is a two-tiered system where the trusted elite can surf the Internet with relative freedom while the masses are kept inside the national intranet, painstakingly sealed off from the outside world, meticulously surveilled and built in no small part on pilfered software.

Kim just fired their 3rd ICBM. 2 in July of this year.. One in Sept flew over Japan but wasn't an ICBM. Initial reporting said 600 miles. Jennifer Griffin with FNC now saying has confirmed with the Pentagon 50+ min, 2800 miles, entered space.

It could as easily have been Ukraine. They have off the shelf tech laying around, lax controls, they're cash strapped.

Oh and they're Original Gangsta almost as much as the Russians

It's time to nuke North Korea. Tell China & Russia as the missiles are firing in the silos. Do recon ahead of time on North Korea's sub locations & knock down as many missiles as could be fired from them & stop playing the game.

I agree that something needs to be done, but I don't think it's as drastic as nuking North Korea.

I'm not a military expert, but I think we need some good-old fashioned American creativity. Blast the country with EMPs, use lasers from space to destroy their nuclear military installations, release a virus into their programming, or just find a way to straight-up assassinate Kim Jong Un.

North Korean leadership isn't stupid. They're playing a game to prop themselves up in the world, but they know an actual nuclear launch towards South Korea, Japan, Guam, the US, etc. will lead to their end.

So if it's plausible that "their end" will happen, why do we have to sacrifice millions of Japanese, South Korean or other Asian citizens - not to mention American citizens since they can now hit the American mainland. Just give the order, turn the key, hit the button and end it.

Bill Clinton passed on opportunities to bomb NK’s plutonium reactor in 1994 and Osama Bin Laden’s desert camp in 1998.

Both inactions cost this country dearly.

I don't think a preemptive nuke strike is the way to go, but I do get the sense that they wouldn't mind going out in a fiery ball. I'm starting to look at the whole country as Heaven's Gaters. :?

There is really no option that doesn't leave us with hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dead people.

And this situation, ironically enough, may be the only one that Trump not only didn't create, but it is also one he likely cannot make worse (that means its REALLY bad)

Let's review a timeline-

1. Clinton relied on diplomacy and "peace in our time" agreements on nukes that the Norks violated

2. Bush relied on diplomacy and "peace in our time" agreements which the Norks also violated

3. Moammar Qaddafi, believing Bush would "depose" him like Saddam, agreed to give up all nuclear, chem, and biological precursors. (this one is important)

4. Obama relied on diplomacy and "Smart Power TM" to handle Nork drum beating

5. In an awesome display of "Smart Power", the Obama admin, cheerleaded by Hillary Clinton's State Department (we came we saw he died) decided to decapitate Libya anyway.

6. North Korea rightly surmises that giving up their nuke program is not an option because the US will regime-change your ass anyway.

Oh, and I forgot ....

6. Last week, former USG Frequent Flyer and retired guy John Kerry said that all diplomatic avenues haven't been exhausted. That's a relief
