I would have done what a grown up would have. Let the country be free to make the choice on what's right for them as an individual. That's what a leader would do. Not grab control for political sake and run the country into the ground like Biden did.

trump was POTUS for the first 9 months of COVID. The response that you abhor started on his watch, he shares responsibility.

As someone who works at a Level I hospital, people are still dying of Covid. Unlike influenza, it's a year-round flow of patients from all over the state. Unlike influenza, it has more symptoms, severely affects a wider range of ages, and is more difficult to treat.

"It isn't even the flu" doesn't adequately describe the sadness of someone coming in for having trouble breathing, continue to worsen, get put on a vent, sedating them as both a rest and comfort measure (knowing they most likely don't wake up), then have them arrest on you.

And if we get them back, the virus is still there...so they arrest on you again...and again...and again (because none of them have DNR orders, because no way they can die of Covid...in 2024!). At this point all the ribs are jelly and the skin is bruised and the heart has taken a helluva beating...until it arrests one final time which we can't reverse.

And unlike the early days, families are now allowed at bedside (with precautions). If the patient is lucky (and family unlucky), the family witnesses this horror show in-person and tells us to stop doing CPR.
