It's beyond hypocritical for trump and MAQA yahoos to call people unhinged, radical leftists, communists, socialists, etc. and then complain about being calling fascists, Nazis.

Hold yourself to the same standard you attempt to hold others to.
:dunce:

WTF are you talking about? Donks love socialism.

What Americans think about socialism and capitalism, according to a new Gallup poll
A new Gallup poll finds that while U.S. adults overall are more likely to have a positive view of capitalism than socialism, Democrats feel differently. According to the survey, only 42% of Democrats view capitalism favorably, while 66% have a positive view of socialism.
You can't both sides your way out of this one.
And MAQA loves authoritarianism/fascism, they just don't like when it's called fascism (or Christo-fascism/Christo-Nationalism) and want to hide it behind nicknames like America First.

Talk about down the political rabbit hole

Most Americans would have no idea what you’re actually saying much less identifying with your bullshit

The fascist thing, especially going to the Nazi thing and Hitler, does seem a step past calling people socialists. It started with people calling W that early in his administration (the whole protests against the Afghanistan and Iraq wars were replete with signs comparing W to Hitler, complete with the small mustache), and only has ramped up over time. When you couple that with the fate of the republic in the balance, as we started doing in the 2010's, then I could see the argument. There's really nothing worse than being a Hitler or a Nazi. That's like going triple dog dare on someone.
That step past calling people socialists is made up by the sheer number of people and times that trump and MAQA yahoos have called his opponents unhinged, radical leftists, communists, socialists, etc. They've used them on judges, journalists, politicians, etc. Anyone that opposes or rules against trump's policies is fair game for derogatory name calling in their book and then they turn around and whine like the beta cucks they are when someone calls them names.

Don't dish it out if you can't take it.

Fox News earlier this week called Rep Jasmine Crockett a "radical".
Radical House Dem appointed to GOP-led committee investigating January 6: 'We will expose the lies'

There are a lot of MAQA lawmakers in Congress, trump's Qabinet and statehouses that are just as if not more radical than Crockett.

There are people alive today who grew up during the America First movement.

There are some on the right who embrace right wing, nationalistic, autocracy (aka fascism) including the current president. They don’t hide it. They celebrate it.

And that's why jumping ahead to calling them Nazi's goes too far. That was a very specific kind of fascism, and it included world domination and racial purity through genocidal means. I'm pretty sure as crappy of Presidents George W Bush was and Trump is, they are decidedly not Nazi's. Or Hitler. Or Goebbels, etc. Yet for 25 years there's been a not insignificant core on the left who tell us they are that, and in the past 15 years, that the nation and our republic are on the brink of dissolving, that the next election is the last election. Trump goes away in January of '29, sooner if his health fails him.

OK, show your work. Please direct me the Gallup poll where all these MAGAs love fascism (or whatever you people call it now).

With many socialist policies. So I’ll ask again regarding your post….do 66 % of Democrats view the gulag type positively or the Nordic mixed economy type of socialism? Further, are Arkansas farmers wanting a bailout from the tariff effect socialist too? How about Intel?

Next you’re gonna tell me the U.S. isn’t a completely capitalist country either…or some crazy shit like that.

Of course they’re not Nazis. Nazis were German.

I guess the point is how close do you want to get to Nazi-like governance (I’d like to think you’re aware of the other countless examples).

And yet, even then you still keep referring to the Nazis. And you at least have the historical knowledge to know it's not comparable. How about those who don't have that knowledge and hear "Nazi" and "end of the republic" like a drumbeat for 15 years?

Similar to the US, Finland is a free-market capitalist country. Also, similar to the US, Finland has a mixed economy. The only real difference is that Finland and its Nordic brethren have a more robust social safety net. As much as you may wish it were true, Finland is not a socialist country.

Well, the names are a part of the divisive political climate. And absolutely, the GOP has certainly caught up with the Dems, even those all the way back in 2002 breaking out the Hitler memes for Bush, with the name calling and foretelling of doom if an election doesn't go their way. And Trump is despicable and a terrible President, but remember, he didn't even come onto the scene until 2016. That's a good 15 years of the GOP supposedly going all Nazi, 16 years after the GOP and the SCOTUS stole an election, and a good 4 years at least after Obama and the Dems declared our Republic basically over. Political nihilism hasn't been good for us as a country.

Yes, Finland is a free-market capitalist country with a more robust social safety net. That more robust social safety net is what many liberals want and there are MAQA yahoos that call it "socialism" and it's supporters socialists/communists/Marxists.

I don't agree with the Hitler comparison for trump (he's more of a wannabe, tinpot banana republic dictator) but it's fair to question why it's okay for trump to call others (not just opponents) socialists/communists/Marxists but not for people who oppose him to call him a fascist.

I’m not sure how you missed “you don’t say” or other countless economic debates we’ve had on here where I argued that the U.S. is a mixed economy similar to every other developed country. It was usually a rebuttal of ‘Murican capitalism or Reaganomics/laissez faire/neoliberalism. Remember, a truly capitalistic “invisible” hand economy is Somalia.

It’s all definitions and the actual mix of private and public economic influences, often misunderstood for the sake ideology.

I’m sorry…the GOP was playing catch up this whole time since Bush? C’mon man.

Well, the attempt to overturn and decertify elections certainly started then. GOP didn't really pick up that in earnest until much later. And hey, it's a really close race now for who is the most polarizing, divisive, and disparaging of the other side. Yay America! :ohno:

It could be argued that the GOP kick-started modern political divisiveness with Newt Gingrich and the Clinton impeachment. Regardless of who started it, I agree that both sides are "polarizing, divisive, and disparaging of the other side".

I'm still waiting for the adults we were told would be in charge to step up and lead.

That would require reasonable, well-informed adult voters.

On the divisiveness front, the 2000 election was justifiably challenged. And we can certainly throw in Rush Limbaugh and the rise of Fox News before that. Heck we can even go back further to the Nixon era.

You’re always going to have division/tribalism in a two party system. We’ve allowed it to it fester to a tipping point.

TBH, I think it's not specific enough to just blame leftists or liberals for this. People like Kyle Kulinski and Cenk Uygur have both commented on what a nice guy Charlie Kirk was. This is really the fault of a cult obsessed with identity that shouldn't even be called liberalism.

Example: A lot of people are complaining about Kirk's comments on black pilots and air traffic controllers. The FAA literally replaced an exam they gave people who want to be ATCs and replaced it with a personality test. I'm sorry, but a lot of DEI programs out there SHOULD get criticized and you're just a dishonest grifter if you call them white supremacist.

Anyways, it turns out that an armed society isn't necessarily a polite society. We can reel in guns or reel in social media or just accept this as the normal.

We can reel in whatever you want, but there are many things amiss in this country. Parenting and the raising of kids is something I think is frontmost - we don't, as a society, do that well anymore. There's too much meanness and selfishness and narcissism in the country today, and too many kids, if they even have both or one parent, are learning that lesson growing up. And then they pass that on to their kids. Too few really care about those around them. Don't know how that gets fixed.

I agree that efforts to make up for hundreds of years of slavery and discrimination and to level the playing field went too far but that doesn't change the reality that those years of slavery and discrimination put people of color at a serious disadvantage when it came to building wealth, purchasing homes, etc. Acknowledging that damage and attempting to help them overcome the it was not a bad thing.

We failed not because we tried but because we took it too far, to the point of absurdly prioritizing skin color over necessary qualifications for jobs like ATC, firefighter, etc.

Pretending that discrimination and it's impact magically ended when the Civil Rights Amendment or another law was passed is just as absurd.

Spoiled Rotten

Politics is the way it is because too many depend on politicians to give them what they want or need

And politicians can’t say no because then they wouldn’t get reelected

It’s a viscous cycle

Maybe Vladimir will bring us together
