Those women were true heroes. They united the US and we were finally able to cheer for a foreign country in the Olympics. They brought us together in a way we have never seen before. We watched every match and had no clue what the rules were. It didn't really matter.

They need to come back and help us heal again. Only they can do it.

I'll take one for the team and check out the Brazilian women's volleyball teams.
Good point. I am probably going to have to apply for an extended visa now.
I'm not sure we can afford your per diem if you extend your trip. Let me talk to Helen in HR.

I won't need much. A hotel for a week and just flight/food allowances for a couple of months and I will be good.

Too many factors for this to say much. Voluntary social distancing, population density, etc.

It’s like Trump spiking the ball on New Zealand yesterday because they’re now all the way back up to 13 cases total.

I'll note that the higher deaths in CA wouldn't have happened had it not been for the blm protests/riots int he first half of June.

The graph on the right is a graph of deaths per million population. The flatten the curve graphs are not about that. They are about total cases. Two completely different things.

Too many factors? The graph shows the result of all those factors put together into the overall picture.

What is also a discussion point, is how NY/NJ's response may have conferred herd immunity and why you don't see a second wave.

They just needed to follow Sweden from the start.

Sweden is a good example. Culturally compliant with government recommendations, low population density. Tegnell has admitted that they should have been more agressive from the start and that herd immunity is unobtainable. Their death rate is high and their infection rate is top 30.

Even with state mandates Americans lack the discipline and intellect, and are too selfish to achieve what Sweden has done.

And I believe if Biden wins, he will try for a national mask mandate. Too many people failed the common sense test, therefore we have common sense laws like seat belts, helmets, texting/phones while driving, etc.

It has already been bandied about that the President can’t actually mandate that masks be worn.

What he CAN do is compel state governors to do it, and can withhold federal funding if they balk.

Remember how the bad orange man withholding federal funding from local and state jurisdictions who didn’t enforce immigration retainers was bad? We’re about to see a philosophical about face on that

There's a chance Biden gets the Congressional votes for it.

Right now the GOP won't dare go against dear leader, but without Trump and elections over, you don't need many Senators tagging on (especially if the chamber flips). Plus Americans have the memory of a goldfish so they risk little after the initial bitch*ng BDK and friends will do, and can potentially gain a lot when the virus is contained. And it will have the same success rate as what is currently going on due to lack of an ability to enforce .

But it would be kind of ironic if DHS agents sweep through rural America in unmarked vans detaining people who aren't wearing masks.

No, those people would have to be looting, rioting, assaulting 1st while not wearing masks.

But will it continue to move the needle? There is always an initial compliance spike in the data then it starts tapering off as people's habits starts to re-assert themselves.

Good luck. I give it a few weeks and then the vans will start disappearing.

It would be even more ironic if people who consider themselves red-blooded, law-abiding, Murcian patriots went even further off the deep end in defying federal authority months after decrying the protests and riots in cities.

To be honest, some of those people have been defying federal authority in certain areas before most of us were born here on this forum. They just didn't burn anything while they were doing it. :kisswink:
