The pending SCOTUS North Carolina ruling slated for the next session may play a huge roll in future elections too.UNI88 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 20, 2022 2:12 pm Bipartisan U.S. Senate group introduces bill intended to head off another Jan. 6
2 Thoughts ...A bipartisan group of U.S. senators introduced two bills on Wednesday to reform election laws, seeking to block a repeat of then-President Donald Trump's failed attempt to overturn his 2020 election loss to Democratic President Joe Biden.
The legislation, among other things, would make clear that the vice president has only a ceremonial role in certifying election results, after a mob of Trump supporters on Jan. 6, 2021, stormed the U.S. Capitol in a bid to force then-Vice President Mike Pence to overturn the election result.
...
Introduced by the group led by Democratic Senator Joe Manchin and Republican Senator Susan Collins, the two bills address a range of issues, from the handling of election results and presidential transitions to mail-in ballots, election record security and threats against election workers.
1) Holy Sh!t, there are adults in Washington.
2) If January 6 weren't a big deal then this legislation wouldn't be needed and wouldn't have gotten bipartisan support.
Please no "but the AnTiFa riots", those were a big deal too and should have been handled as attacks on our Republic as well.

Whether Trump was trying to drain it or not is irrelevant. This legislation is the swamp protecting their swamp from another interloper.

Have you dealt with government before? I wouldn't call them the most tech savvy folks across the board. I'm hoping we're really good in the forward facing tech stuff that deals with other countries. I don't have as much faith in things like the DMV or other things. Heck, the IRS is still months, if not more than a year behind on tax returns. We're not terribly efficient at the government level.

The USSS is not the DMV. For starters, cyber-security is one of their things.

Three thoughts on this:
1) It would be interesting/good to hear Ibanez and Cid's thoughts on it.
2) It doesn't seem right and should be looked into.
3) The irony of illiberals caring about data-retention and cyber-security after pooh-poohing it in 2016 is as rich as death by chocolate mousse.

My guess is that they're willing to do that now because they want to point out the MAGAt hypocrisy (just like MAGAts are pointing out illiberal hypocrisy) and Hillary is out of flavor and so it's safe to throw her under the bus.

If he would do it, sure. And if someone picked him for it, sure. Who's going to do that, though? Who would comfortable with him upstaging them and possibly contradicting the platform of the Presidential nominee? It's certainly not a ticket with Cheney at the top of it, it would have to be someone on the left, and likely far enough away from the middle. That puts you into Warren territory or ones like that. You won't see it on a Harris or a Buttigieg or a Klobuchar ticket (or a, god forbid, Biden in '24 ticket).houndawg wrote: ↑Thu Jul 21, 2022 10:46 amhe's a perfect VP pickGannonFan wrote: ↑Wed Jul 20, 2022 12:08 pm
