Paxton's attorney made multiple guys look like idiots in this trial. That's what happens when you bring this to trial without proof. Hilarious watching person after person say they had no proof. Hopefully the death knell on the Bush clan.

Hiking the entire Appalachian Trail with your kids is really cool, but holy crap. 15 kids.

What does that have to do with paxton’s virtue? A man who cheated on his wife is a shining example of the party of family values and integrity. A book about paxton’s behavior wouldn’t be allowed in a Texas school library but the actual behavior is ok? They’re Hypocrites.

No, I didn’t watch the trial. There is less of a chance of a cultural conservative being held accountable by the Texas house then there is of trump getting a fair trial with a DC jury.

Good. We sort of agree. Everyone should have skin in the game. For some during a crisis, it’s survival items like food and housing. For others it’s a loss of wealth without much effect on standard of living. For a few more it’s an opportunity to expand wealth in the long term (See Taibbi’s old “giant vampire squid” piece from the Great Recession.

I’m not against capitalism. I just agree with the likes of Adam Smith and Lincoln in that manufacturing creates real value (rather than finance) and labor precedes capital.

That’s a true middle stance in this day and age.

I remain post-partisan. :)
For others it’s loss of wealth wealth without much effect on standard of living? Do you realize how many mom and pop landlords there are who rely on their rental income to pay their bills? Losing that income was like losing their job but unemployment wasn’t available to them.

You keep wanting to dump all landlords and business owners into a big bucket of greedy people but then get defensive when I play the same game with individuals who didn’t pay rent and/or collected unemployment. Yes, there were greedy, selfish individuals in both groups but most were just trying to do the best they could during uncertain times.
I’m not about small businesses and ma and pa rental properties here. I’m a part of these groups. You should know that by now.

I’m thinking of downtown property management and/or stuff like this…

"The financialization of the housing market by Wall Street exacerbates corporate profiteering and anti-competitive practices that makes it harder for Americans to afford housing or access homeownership. Low- and middle-income families in my district and across the country are being pushed out because of profiteering and unfair practices by large corporate landlords."

“Selfishness” occurs in all groups. We agree on that. The group at the very top is the one that’s rewarded the most through political outcomes and monetary policy. For better or for worse.

Would love to see how many lobbyists Wall street has writing bills that will incrementally increase their profits at the expense of the smaller fish. How long until they have regulatory capture as well.

I know they already do that, but it would be very instructive to actually see totals. Employees, dollars spent, etc.

When lobbying was up to 5.5 million per elected representative back in 2016, I can only imagine how much worse it's gotten in 7 years.

What is going on with the president? Is he just believing things that didn’t happen, did happen? Or is he just randomly making stuff up?

Ironic that the statement applies to both of them.

Fetterman's a perfect person for the House of Representatives. In the Senate, he's just one more person (and the GOP has several) who are making that chamber into a bit of an embarrassment. It's like we're going in the wrong direction.

He at least comes off as more real than a Schumer or McConnell.

Pomp and circumstances are primarily bullshit.

"Pomp and circumstances are primarily bullshit" but dignity and respect for the office aren't and how you dress can be perceived as showing a lack of dignity and respect just as much as MTG and Boebert hootin' and hollerin' at the SOTU.

Fetterman could wear a pair of golf shorts and a polo or 1/4 zip pullover and be just as comfortable while looking 10x better.

I'd love to see Fetterman dress up like Angus Young with a jacket, tie & shorts just to see MAGAt heads explode at his mocking them.

To be honest, how Fetterman dresses is probably less important than the problem that he doesn't seem all that intelligent in the first place. And to be further honest, it's not like he's been hiding that through his career. He's kinda like Trump but without orange hair, he's on the Democratic side of the aisle, and he's not breaking the law left and right through his business or personal life.

Do you really think it was some nefarious scheme by Verizon to do this or was it more a case of employee stupidity?
difficult to assess... and also irrelevant
Due to the fact that Verizon / AT&T and Comcast have all been busted "throttling" accounts that they said they would never throttle

Truth be told they should throttle like crazy for the next few years while they still can fuck people over legally
because it's coming to an end pretty soon - Net Neutrality Utility will be a necessity and a reality soon
The FCC plans to restore Obama-era net neutrality rules
When net neutrality rules are enforced, internet service providers are not allowed to block or give preference to any content. They can't throttle access to specific websites or charge the likes of streaming services for faster service. They must provide users with access to every site, content and app at the same speeds and conditions. Advocates tout net neutrality protections as the foundation of an open and equitable internet.
