When we first moved to Seattle five years ago, I purchased a local publication that had all the major neighborhoods in the Seattle area ranked. The little town we chose was ranked eighth. Got high marks in everything but one category - diversity. Apparently, where I live is too white.

Needless to say, I always felt I could live with eighth place and just go drive to see diversity if I wanted.

Here is some of that diversity that is preventing my neighborhood from busting into the top 5 I am sure.

In a police statement filed Thursday in Everett District Court, 61-year-old Mehdi M. Matin says more than 20 years ago his brother uttered words about his bride-to-be so terrible the wedding was called off. Both men are from Afghanistan.

Matin was visiting his brother Monday when he repeated the remark.

Matin told detectives he hit his brother in the head with a pipe until he was unconscious and then strangled him with a rope.

eeeEEEKKKK! The horror!

All kidding aside, when I did my first stint in Seattle 12 years ago, I had to get my CPR certification, and the class was being held at a neighborhood church. Everyone was black, except me.

Needless to say, after spending an evening and getting to know everyone, many of my classmates invited me to attend their church. That always made me feel good.

It's so true though - The Seattle Metro area is oddly diverse and oddly NOT diverse
I read that Seattle has the highest percentage of Asians and Indians and one of the lowest percentages of blacks and below average percentage of Hispanic...

Seattle Metro & San Francisco Metro have the highest percentage of Asians in North America... and Seattle alone has the highest Indian population - Needless to say if you're looking for good Indian or good Sushi

come on down
