Navy SEALs Face Assault Charges for Capturing Most-Wanted Terrorist.

Can someone explain exactly what they are being charged with? I really don't get it and don't blame them for taking it to a court martial. Sorry if the guy got hit in the face while being captured, sounds to me like he should have been shot on site and drug in instead.

I saw that they refused NJP. That's a smart move, I think. That's what I would have done. If it was going to be handled NJP then the charges aren't that serious to begin with.

That being said, I wouldn't have detained the guy in the first place.

This is what being in the military has come down to: What used to get you a Navy Commendation Medal with a "V" for Valor now gets you trumped up charges and a courts martial. Should have put a bullet into him as he "attempted to evade capture".

I can not BELIEVE these guys' superiors aren't chirping loudly from the highest tree.

Cid is right. They were smart to elect courts-martial. I am betting that the vast majority of combat experienced eligible jurors are just waiting to set them free and send a strong signal to the politically correct chain of command.
