Our Country Is So Far In Debt...

...That we need to borrow another $1.8 TRILLION to avoid defaulting on our debt...

Isn't that like using a credit card to make the minimum payment on another bunch of credit cards...
House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) said Friday that the government needs to borrow at least $1.8 trillion more next year to avoid defaulting on its debts.

Such an increase in the nation's debt ceiling is much larger than Democrats had contemplated earlier this year.

It's all good. The way things are going, we'll be back to bartering with rocks sooner rather than later.

Sh!t dude..
If we closed 500 bases (leaving over 300 world wide) we'd be out of debt in 3 years...

Then we could take all those troops and put 'em to work building a wall between U.S. & Mexico

During the buildup to BRAC2005, the SECDEF said he wanted to reduce DOD infrastructure by 25%...

The politicians...on both side of the aisle...went ballistic...and pretty much prevented that from happening (that's the nickle version of a 500 page book , but that's the bottom line)...

The result...by LAW...DOD is operating tons of underutilized bases...but the local jobs are safe...which as we all know is the bottom line...

So next time you want to bash the DOD budget, remember, even when they try to cut their own budget, it's a job being cut somewhere...and politicians won't let that happen...because they don't want to be accused in the next campaign of being "soft" because each job on the DOD payroll protects America... :coffee:

Agree. Now stay of my and Capn's asses when we call the US military our largest welfare program - because that is exactly what it is for the most part.

Get rid of everyone except the pilots, the submarines and the dudes who control the drones. That's all we fucking need.... :coffee:

Great try at twisting what I said....but I expect nothing less from you...

Politicians prevent DOD from cutting it's excess facilities....and that makes the military a welfare program???

You logic is as faulty as it is weak... :coffee:

Funny how rolling back tax cuts on the uber wealthy and corporations who benefit the most from big government and economic bubbles never enters these discussions. :coffee:

1. We print more money to cover our debts.

2. This causes runaway inflation (which is just around the corner, folks. It is in the mail)

3. Things get so bad that people cannot afford the 65 dollar ticket to a movie.

4. Hollywood actresses (with no life skills outside of being pretty in movies) start carrying signs, "WILL SUCK DICK FOR FOOD."

Awesome. What could possibly be wrong with that?

And they are jealous of the rich so stealing their money starts to seem like a good idea.

Just because somebody has a fu*kload of money doesnt mean its ok for you to take more of it than a poor person. Everyone should be taxed at the same rate........actually the poor should be taxed at a higher rate since they leach off more of the programs to help them out. Then they might feel like getting into a lower tax bracket.

Really?

Please tell me how corporations like Circuit City, Goody's, Steve & Barry's, Samsonite, Polaroid, Flying J's, Bennigans, S&K Menswear, Ritz Camera, Sportsman's Warehouse, Big 10 Tire, and countless others have benefited from "big government" and "economic bubbles".

Seems to me the only one who really benefits is big government itself. Afterall , your "big government" now owns Chrysler and General Motors. :coffee:

It is the BIG GOVERNMENT AND ITS POLICIES that create the opportunities for corruption and cause the problems in the first place. And its not very fvcking funny.

Under our current system, the more wealth a company or an individual accumulates, the more power they acumulate and the greater their chances of increasing their piece of the pie. Three good examples of this would be the $5 billion Wall Street spent on lobbying during the Clinton and Bush administrations to deregulate the financial sector which we are now all paying for, or the untold billions spent in military funding over the past 50 years to insure stability in the Persian Gulf or the construction of public roads both of which greatly benefit big oil and big auto. I'm not saying these things are right or wrong, or that the public doesn't also benefit, but where would the oil companies and Wall Street be without massive government spending? And remember, Enron wasn't paying any taxes the last 5 years of its existence.

Historically, tax cuts on the wealthy and corporations tend to produce more lear jets, box seats, gambling in the financial markets and bubble economies while higher taxes force the weatlhy and coporations to reinvest in their business which helps sustain growth in the real economy. During the 1950's when the top marginal rate was 91% and corporations paid roughly 40% of federal tax revenues (vs. 10% today) we still had a lot of rich people and successful businesses, they just tended to have silver plated toilets instead of gold. And oh yeah, we were in the midst of the largest economic expansion and growth of the middle class in the history of the world.

But hey, if you googly eyed peasants prefer dynastic wealth and monopolies, if you prefer Mexico to Norway, that's your prerogative. Just remember that at the end of a game of monopoly there's only one winner and a whole bunch of losers. :thumb:

The Prez. is effing up by not announcing an Apollo-style program to slash our dependency on mid-east oil.

If Cheney and Rummy had half a brain between them we'd have taken Venezuela's oil instead. It's right next door and a bunch of newspaper reporters with baseball bats could have taken it in a weekend.

Anybody who isn't a wishy washy pu$$y about guns is welcome to come help man the ramparts. I'lll feed you. We'll pile those no-useful-skills motherfvckers up at the property line and watch the dogs eat them.

I can't fvcking wait. I hope Keith Olberman shows up, looking for work. I'm gonna sell his ass into male sex slavery.

Yeah, but I'll bet he doesn't know how to farm it. Sh!t, that cocksucker can't even find Brylcream. He'll starve with the rest of the 'extra' people.

I kind of like the idea of going back to a feudal system. I'll have my own little fiefdom with the motto, "No Worky, No Eaty, Motherfvckers"

Kalm, are you seriously suggesting we should raise taxes on corporations in the middle of a recession? I mean, I knew donks tend to think of the economy as a completely static system in which nothing is interconnected, but raising taxes on corporations with unemployment most likely still rising? :?

Corporations don't pay taxes. People pay taxes. Corporations collect taxes for the government.
