Read this one yesterday in a doctor's office and immediately thought of some of you "government and the poor are stealing hard working, successful people's money", free market, laissez-faire, types.

So how many of you consider yourselves ARA's?

"2009's most influential author is a mirthless Russian-American who loves money, hates God, and swings a gigantic dick. She died in 1982, but her spawn soldier on. And the Great Recession is all their fault":

Objectivism and conservatism are two different things. A lot of objectivists are actually pro-big government as long as said big government isn't perceived to fit their arbitrary definition of "collectivism" which they are never consistent in applying. You can find objectivists who are pro-gun control, pro oil nationalization, pro marajuna prohibition, pro patriot act, and other things like that. If you read the objectivist forum and all the bickering they do among each other it's like listening to a bunch of teenagers arguing over what constitutes "real" punk rock. It pales in comparison to the rift that's in the conservative movement. Probably the only issue they'd all agree on is abolishing welfare.

Furthermore, a conservative sees conservatism as a means to an end - they believe it to be best for everyone involved. An objectivist thinks their arbitrary definition of individualism is the end.

This is because there are boys and girls among us who have never overcome the Randian infection. The Galt speech continues to ring in their ears for years like a maddening tinnitus, turning each of them into what next year's Physicians' Desk Reference will (undoubtedly) term an Ayn Rand Asshole (ARA)

Interesting points.

And that's the problem with Rand's ideas, they are impractical and utopic. Buy they have strongly influenced both modern libertarian and conservative thinking.

BTW, define conservatism.

More impractical and utopic than modern day liberalism?
