This is what happens with financial deregulation - insurance companies get to be run by professional gamblers who out-smart themselves, jeopardize the world wide economy, and then pine about not getting their bonus...ahem, I mean...retention payments.
"I don't know how they resolve it now. There's no trust there," said one Financial Products executive, who, like others, spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the payments. "In order to negotiate, there has to be good faith and trust, and the government has shown those two things don't exist with them."

P.S. These are the same type of sociopaths and white collar criminals that some of you would rather have take your money and hand it to your doctor for you versus some public official who can do the same thing for a middle class income
