He wants to raise the cigarette tax $1 per pack that would increase the price of a pack of name brand cigarettes like Marlboro to $10 in New York City.
The proposal also calls for a 1 cent per ounce tax on the sales of sodas. A 2-liter bottle of soda would increase from a current cost of about $1.75 per bottle to $2.39, that doesn't include a bottle deposit or the sales tax already levied.
Meantime he is slashing education spending in the state by $1 billion and another $1 billion being slashed from health care.
He had already previously eliminated free and discounted public transportation for students in New York City who travel great distances each day to get to school.
