White House: 'We have to take into account what voters said yesterday'

BOSTON - Republicans are rejoicing and Democrats reeling in the wake of Scott Brown's stunning triumph in a special Massachusetts Senate election, a devastating Democratic defeat that triggered soul-searching within President Barack Obama's party over how to stem further losses in November's midterm elections.

White House officials acknowledged that one of the lessons from Massachusetts was the intensity of voter anger, but they said it wasn't so much with Obama as with Washington's failures in general and with the moribund economy.

Brown maintained in an interview Wednesday morning that claiming the election was a referendum on Obama would be oversimplifying what had happened there. Nor, he said, was it merely a matter of voters rejecting Coakley.

Asked on NBC's "Today" show if the election was a referendum on Obama, he replied, "No, it's bigger than that.

As if in a nod to voter disgust with Washington, Obama signed a directive Wednesday aimed at stopping government contracts from going to tax-delinquent companies. "We need to insist on the same sense of responsibility in Washington that so many of you strive to uphold in your own lives, in your own families and in your own businesses," Obama said.

So, we can expect to see no more Obama appointees that are behind in their taxes.

And that clown Rangel is going to resign under direct pressure from Obama because Obama just said, "We need to insist on the same sense of responsibility in Washington that so many of you strive to uphold in your own lives, in your own families and in your own businesses".

Change is finally coming.

Exactly MJ. That's why switching from Republican to Democrat and expecting "change" is a farce. There's no difference, and both have equally sucked. Yet, they are good at one thing...keeping dissent at arm's length. Dems and Reps agree that the best way for them to maintain power is to gang up on the smaller parties. They can live with losing power for a decade, as long as it's the enemy they know. It's a sad shame.

I made it up. So, if it's 65%? 60%? 56%? Does the number really matter? WAY more Americans strongly oppose health care reform than strongly support it. THAT should be the message the dipshits take away from this ass beating.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that just 38% of voters nationwide favor the health care reform plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats. That matches the lowest level of support yet. Fifty-six percent (56%) of voters oppose the plan.

Just 18% of voters Strongly Favor the plan while 44% are Strongly Opposed.

Hey, that's all I asked for, I don't think it's reasonable to say that the election of one senator means that the vast majority of Americans don't favor some sort of healthcare reform. It also doesn't mean that Obama is guaranteed to lose in 2012.

Actually, the voters and the Republicans did Obama and the Dems a favor - they gave them a stinging defeat and a chance to back away from the disaster that was going to be the Health Care bill and did all of that 10 months before the mid term election. Having a super majority gave the Dems way too much latitude and they ended up going way too far. Now they have a second chance to rectify things and see if they can actually make good on Obama's original promise of post-partisanism. I worry, though, that we're going to see more populist rallying crying (i.e. fat cat references) and trying to find a bogeyman for Dems to point to - the amount of Bush references in the past week is disturbing. Bunkering down isn't going to fix anything.
