Son of a very popular former governor, Undergraduate from Harvard, Law degree from Arizona State.

Great Attorney General. Narrowly lost Governor's race back in the 1990's.

Would be a decent Governor, more of a centerist.

If Dean Martin gets the GOP nod, is there a Jerry Lewis to be his running mate?

What would AZ do without the constant corruption, police brutality and racial profiling that runs rampant through the Maricopa County Sheriff's office?

Hey Z, why did Arpaio win recent re-election by double digits? Has he ever faced a serious re-election challenge?

 Arizona!

Arpaio is a natural for a state that elects a senator who can't stop drooling in his porridge long enough to get his diaper changed.

You're obviously confusing Arizona with West Virginia.

Arpaio was elected Maricopa County sheriff in 1992 and has been reelected to five 4-year terms.

Arpaio's accomplishments as Sheriff, from the Maricopa County web site, include:

Arpaio has over 10,000 inmates in his jail system. In August, 1993, he started the nation’s largest Tent City for convicted inmates. Two thousand convicted men and women serve their sentences in a canvas incarceration compound. :thumb:

Chain gangs which contribute thousands of dollars of free labor to the community. The male chain gang, and the world’s first-ever female and juvenile chain gangs, clean streets, paint over graffiti, and bury the indigent in the county cemetery. :thumb:

Tough policies banning smoking, coffee, movies, pornographic magazines, and unrestricted TV in all jails. :thumb:

Cheapest jail meals in the U.S., averaging about 15 cents. Inmates are fed only twice daily, to cut the labor costs of meal delivery. No salt and pepper to saves tax payers $20,000 a year. :thumb:

Inmates wear pink under shorts. When the Sheriff learned that inmates were stealing jailhouse white boxers, Arpaio had all inmate underwear dyed pink for better inventory control. The same is true for the Sheriff’s handcuffs. When they started disappearing, he ordered pink handcuffs as a replacement. And later, when the Sheriff learned the calming, psychological effects of the color pink—sheets, towels, socks— everything inmates wear, except for the old-fashioned black and white striped uniform, were dyed pink. :thumb:

He's a psychotic, power-hungry asshole. Google his name and you'll find hundreds of websites, stories and docuemntation regarding the corruption and abuse of power he's condoned, participated in and ordered in his 16 years in office.

His entire HOUSE was pink...I know, because I lived about 2 blocks from him for 5 years.

He's NOT the kind of guy you want dumping your garbage, let alone running the sherriff's dept for a major county like Maricopa.

Honestly, if he gets elected governor, I'm going to immediately start looking for some othe state to move to.

Sheriff Joe has lost the County tens of millions in lawsuits because of abuse.

Why does he keep getting reelected? Because Maricopa County is filled with Morons.

And when the two Maricopa County regular posters on the board, who politically disagree on most things, both have the same negative opinion of him, that should tell you something.

Lawsuit abuse by the left does not make a case. Do you have more details?

If Sheriff Joe is so bad, why does he consistently get re-elected by such large margins? (Your previous "answer" does not qualify, dbj.)

He keeps getting reelected because there's a LOT of stupid people in this state who know of him only as you do...the 'pink underwear and moldy bologna tent city toughest sherriff in America guy". :ohno: :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

One more thing, native:

if "lawsuit abuse by the left" doesn't make MY case, then him getting consistently reelected sure as HELL doesn't make YOUR case.

You can't cure "stupid". :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

You really think that 65% of your fellow citizens in Maricopa County are stupid morons? :?

If I move there, I guess it won't make much difference one way or the other.

Seriously, what is the case against Sheriff Joe? Are the accomplishments I listed false? Do you disagree that those accomplishments are worthy? How has he done a poor job? Is the crime rate too high?

When it comes to Arpaio, YEP. I would venture a guess that Arpaio gets at LEAST 85% of the vote of the 55+ crowd.

They push the "Arpaio" button in the voting booth because he keeps them pesky Mexicans in check---granted it's thruogh police brutality and abuse and profiling, but hey....don't let little things like illegal activity slow you down, right?
