In a statement released to NBC News, Edwards said, "I am Quinn’s father. ... It was wrong for me ever to deny she was my daughter and hopefully one day, when she understands, she will forgive me."

Friends of the family said that Edwards and wife, Elizabeth, have separated, NBC reported.

The admission comes after months of denials from Edwards that he fathered former mistress Rielle Hunter's daughter, Frances Quinn. The revelation also comes a week before his former campaign aide, Andrew Young, is set to appear in an ABC News interview saying he posed as the father when the scandal first broke as a favor to Edwards.

What a complete and utter piece of shit.

On Morning Joe two days ago, they were discussing approval percentage points with regard to candidates. For reference, they used Edwards as a benchmark...his approvals are at 17%, the lowest they have ever recorded... .. (& well deserved I might add)....

Edwards is douchebag royalty. Always has been, always will be. I take great pleasure in seeing his dismise. As to Elizabeth, those of us in NC know she is just as bad. I'm not going to sugar coat it because she, sadly, has cancer. She knew about his infedility during the campaign and chose to proceed trying to keep it quiet. She didn't care about the pain it could cause her children, she wanted the power. They deserve each other.

This is what a partial Senate term and presidential campaign built on a foundation of ambulance chasing gets you. His run for Senate was totally a foundation for a presidential run, and he (and those like him) do their constituencies a disservice by trying to be an effective representative and scrambling for the Oval Office.

So why are none of you as upset about Tiger Woods being a cheater? Granted he never ran for president, but I guarantee you he had/has more kids looking up to him than Edwards did. Won't somebody please think of the children?????

Tiger always seemed (to me) to be a little too good to be true, which is why his filandering made such headlines. Our boy Edwards, on the other hand, was always a piece of crap from purely a political perspective, and cheating on his wife seemed like a natural progression for him. Throw in the fact that she was battling breast cancer at the time and he clears the POS bar by several feet.

I'm not a fan of either, but Tiger has a better chance of coming out of this debacle and recovering some of his dignity.

I think you're right in that regard, people aren't all up in arms because of Tiger as much as they are for Edwards. But when comparing an athlete to a politician/lawyer, it is Apples to Oranges

Agree with that entirely. And Edwards to this day wouldn't have admitted the fathering of the child if a book wasn't about to come out by the guy Edwards paid off to lie and say the child was his (btw, what about that guy? He has a wife and kids of his own and he actually thought it would be good to take this bullet for his boss? Yikes).

Sounds like a democratic apologist. Tiger is a golfer, and as far as we know hasn't fathered a kid out of wedlock and lied about it. He also didn't talk utter bullshit about there being two Americas, the one John Edwards lives in where he is a god and get's away with anything, and the one the rest of us live in--I'm sorry...rich and poor. Also, Tiger didn't try to push and change policy that affects all Americans.

As to Tiger, I've never been a fan (just like Edwards) and he's getting what he deserves too. Edwards has lost things important to him: power, reputation, and a career. Woods has lost things important to him: money, sex, reputation, teeth? They both have received just rewards.
