Champions Tour player Jim Thorpe has been sentenced to a year in prison for failing to pay more than $2 million in income taxes.
Much like when Wesley Snipes went to jail for the same thing, I REALLY have a problem with this. What good does sending him to prison do? And do only famous BLACK people evade their taxes?
This just does NOT compute and smacks of government power run amok.

Blacks go to jail because they blow all their dough on coke and hos. And they look better behind bars.
All kidding aside, why do folks who knock down enough money to actually owe millions of dollars, not take care of their business? If you owe taxes, you are making money. One of the reasons for owning a business is to itemize and control wages, it is a tax management system, available to all. Hate to pay them but I do.
I get what AZ is saying, dudes like him and Wesley Snipes are such a benefit to our country just by being here and allowing dough dandruff to filter off their money making asses, they should not have to pay any taxes nor follow any laws they deem unnecessary. They also both prefer women with 65% of their body weight tied up in their butt cheeks.

My business partner plays golf with Thorpe a few times a year at Heathrow CC, which is about 5 miles from the central FL Blueballs compound. Chris DiMarco is often in that group as well.
I've met Thorpe a couple of times at bars and he is just the nicest guy with a sharp wit and likes to have fun and a good cigar.
However, none of that is an excuse for not paying taxes for over 3 years on $5mm of earnings.

I agree it's no excuse, but wouldn't it make more sense for the government to allow him to continue MAKING a living so they can get their money faster?

Martha's issue was insider trading, I thought?
And if all those folks evaded taxes, why didn't they all go to jail?
And I agree with you about Obama's abiltiy to pick tax evaders for public office.

Tax evasion as well. She quit paying taxes on a vacation house because she stopped visiting it... though she still owned it.

I shit you not. And I think that investigation led to them uncovering the insider trading.

This is sad. I'd STILL rather watch old footage of Thorpe than live coverage of Woods, and that goes BEFORE the scandal hit.
