WMDs in Iraq after all?

Post by danefan »

I thought this was interesting, although its definitely not of the scale originally described.

They have been searching in Iraq for the past nine years, 10 months and 15 days.

Today, the hard work finally paid off as soldiers found one of those elusive ‘weapons of mass destruction’ that Saddam Hussein was supposed to have been hiding.

That's a SS-N-2C cruise missile. It is 1950s technology and was produced by the Soviets. It is actually a scaled-down unmanned MiG-21. It was generally a surface-to-surface anti-shipping missile.

The warhead is what matters, and I am certain there's a conventional warhead on that one, if at all. Saddam buried planes and weapons all over the country. That stuff has been continuously dug out of the ground since we went in there. One of my cousin's squadron mates back in 2004 helped dig a MiG-25 out of the ground, and one of the vertical stabilizers now decorates a bar in Beaufort, SC, I believe.

It's funny that this same scene has been repeated in Iraq over and over since 2003 and the Mail online just now picked up on it. Then again, I guess they are just trying to be snarky. Like a legitimate news agency.
