A spokesman says Democratic Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania, a retired Marine Corps officer who became an outspoken critic of the Iraq war, has died. He was 77.
He had been suffering complications from gallbladder surgery.
In 1974, Murtha became the first combat veteran of the Vietnam War elected to Congress. He wielded considerable clout for two decades as a leader of the House subcommittee that oversees Pentagon spending. But frustration over the Iraq war led him to call for an immediate pullout of U.S. troops in 2005.
Murtha's congressional career was clouded by questions about his ethics—from the Abscam corruption probe in 1980 to more recent investigations into the special-interest spending known as earmarks and the raising of cash for election campaigns.

They should have his funeral at the Johnstown PA airport. Maybe that way someone will actually use it.

Another corrupt career politician dies holding office, yet we as the electorate won't get behind term limits.
The late Rep Murtha is to be commended and lauded for his military service but he was the worst kind of corrupt politician.

And, for once, it is because of the "poster of the year." Congrats, fcuker.

My grandma always told me to say something good about the deceased.
It's good he's dead.
(in all seriousness, I second blueballs comments about his military service. Too bad his public service didn't stop there)

A source close to the Congressman has told CNN that doctors nicked his intestine during surgery and that led to his death.

So what you are saying is that the best thing he did while in office was die.
