Former Vice President Dan Quayle, who lives in Paradise Valley, announced Friday during an interview on the Fox News Channel that his son, local lawyer Ben Quayle, will enter the Republican race to replace retiring Rep. John Shadegg, R-Ariz., in the 3rd Congressional District.
"The big news is my son, Ben Quayle, today filed his papers for congressman in the 3rd Congressional District here in Arizona," Quayle said. "That, in the Quayle family, is big news. Marilyn and I are absolutely thrilled that he's running for Congress. We hope that he does well. We're convinced that he'll be successful and we're very hopeful that he'll be the next congressman from the 3rd Congressional District here. He's filing his papers today."
Quayle said his son is 33. The elder Quayle said he was first elected to office at 29.
