Toyota

Are our "legislators" going a bit overboard with Toyota? Sure looks to me they've admitted their mistakes and are committed to rectifying em. They also appear truly sorry and embarrassed.

Seems our reps are taking out 50 years of auto market frustration out on them for this one recent issue. Jesus Fucking Christ, weren't Fords spontaneously exploding not to long ago?

Also, smart people, like me, can see right through this lame attempt to divert attention from your remarkable ineptitude in Washington. Leave them the fuck alone - get back to work and deliver healthcare reform, get us the fuck out of Iraq and Afghanistan, fix the tax structure and quit spending money you don't have.

Fucking Knuckleheads.

Ugly Americans (especially the ones in Washington).

The crazy little conspiracy theorist part of my brain sprung a thought on me the other day:

Toyota is a foreign-owned, non-union operation. Assuming the unexpected acceleration problem really is being caused by a bad gas pedal part (and this is a big assumption - it could very well be Toyota's electronic design), would it be a stretch to think that this could have been sabotage? Could some union heavies have made the owners of the US part shop an offer they couldn't refuse to bring down Toyota with a faulty part.

Just me thinking out loud. Carry on.

I've owned 4 Camry's (including the one my wife currently drives), 3 Sequoias, 1 Forerunner and the Tundra I drive currently.

My next car will be a Toyota. The one after THAT will be a Toyota....and the one after THAT will be a Toyota.

Not really all that far fetched, IMO. :twocents:

Was your family taken to a camp during WWII?

I heard some of the talking heads saying that some of the basis for the Congressional hearing could be based in protectionism for the now Government Motors to help further discredit Toyota and prop up the US auto industry. A number of the grillers represent states with US auto manufacturing plants.

If true, these guys will stop at nothing in an election year to remain inside the beltway. :ohno:

Maybe they can call the Chinese toymakers over here for using lead paint next.

The Taxpayers of The United States Of America own General Motors, Chrysler, and the National Transportation Safety Board.

No, I just prefer automobiles that don't immediately start breaking down at 36,001 miles. Chevy has THAT concept fucking perfected. :ohno: :ohno:

I won't vouch for Chevy. I drive a Honda. My dad still swears by his GM shit though. His '99 Silverado is coming up on 200,000 miles soon, so the bowtie boys must've done something right.

I told my wife that Honda was going to be the big winner in all this. Nobody wants to buy an American piece o' crap, especially while the government owns GM, so the only logical conclusion is Honda.

Honda and Ford.

Ford is set to surpass Toyota in the #2 spot for US sales.

Toyota's lineup has been a snoozefest for the last couple of years. If I were in the market I have no idea what I'd get at this point - maybe an Acura TL or G37.

If I were in the market for a $30-40k sedan I'd have 3 on my list:

Ford Taurus SHO
Audi A4
Mercedes C300 Sport

The SHO is one bad-ass car.

And always has been, save for the Supra and to a lesser extent the MR2.

This is why Toyota is so fucked right now. People don't buy Toyota's for their coolness. They buy them for their safety and reliability. Well guess what? Those last two adjectives are gone. It's going to take them awhile to recover.

I had an '04 A4 quattro 1.8T - great little car. The SHO is a big car with some cojones - bigger than my car for sure, but I think I'd have a hard time shelling out that kind of cash for a Ford. :twocents:

It really is, but have you seen the dealer markups? Good luck with your $50K Taurus.

I saw one of those the other day around Seattle.

As far as Fords, I would be interested in the Ford Flex to haul all the family around.

That will wear off though I think.

I edited also, adding the Benz C300 Sport. I drove one for fun when I was looking at their SUV's. Fun car.

If I had $45K to spend, I'd get a BMW 335d, but then again, I'm just a weirdo with a diesel fetish. :D

Not too many cars out there that have 265 hp / 425 lb-ft of torque (ga GAH!) and get 36 mpg. :thumb:

(For comparison, a Ford F150 pickup with a Triton V8 has 365 lb-ft of torque.)

My wife loves her Prius...I like it too...

Regarding the yahoos in Congress... :ohno: :ohno:

Toyota made mistakes....they acknowledge they made mistakes...they are working to fix the mistakes...

Good grief...what more do you want?????
