The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000. Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000. The accidental death rate per physician is 0.171.
Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services

Now consider this:
The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000. (Yes, that's 80 million) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500. The accidental death rate per gun owner is .000188.
Statistics courtesy of FBI
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
Please alert your friends to this alarming threat!

Are you suggesting there's a sizable contingent that wants to ban guns?
Your paranoia is showing again.

What else would be the point in starting a thread about how guns aren't that dangerous?

doesn't Tobacco use-related deaths (cancer, etc.) lead to more deaths per year than Guns? I remember that from "Thank You for Smoking"

No question about that...so why are we trying to restrict the rights of people who have been maimed or the families of those killed at their hands?

We're not. We would like to punish those who bring frivolous lawsuits who believe they are entitled to win a lawsuit lottery.
Loser should pay.

The 'loser pays' adage means the middle class and poor will never receive justice. I agree that frivilous suits should be sanctioned, and in PA new rules have been imposed that have reduced med-mal suits by over 33%. Moreover, defense verdicts are usually returned over 90% of the time as there is an inherent prejudice in juries for doctors. So there are already a number of hurdles that make most people think twice, three and four times before going into that morass.
