Obama's Top 10 Insults Against Britain

Obama's cold treatment of Britain, our close democratic ally and his special partner in the war on terror, stands in stark contrast to his warm embrace of thugs like Castro and Hugo Chavez. Here is Nile Gardiner's take:

1. Declaration of neutrality over the Falklands
2. Downgrading of the Special Relationship
3. Support for a federal Europe
4. Undermining of British influence in NATO
5. Refusal to recognize Britain’s sacrifice in Afghanistan
6. Throwing Churchill out of the Oval Office
7. Insulting words from the State Department
8. DVDs for the Prime Minister
9. Refusal to meet the Prime Minister in New York
10. Robert Gibbs’ embarrassing attack on the British press

I've been doing quite a bit of research on Hugo Chavez lately - he might surprise you - if you do a little independent study on the man and exactly what he's done...

The US Media might not be your best source on him...

I'm interested:
Anybody who can show me that Chavez has not done everything he said he was going to do for Venezuela - the man is fairly amazing actually... I always believed he was a Dictator based on US Media Reports

Further examination has been nothing less than MIND BLOWING

From Francisco Rodriguez, "An Empty Revolution," Foreign Affairs, Mar/Apr 2008 "...neither official statistics nor independent estimates show any evidence that Chávez has reoriented state priorities to benefit the poor. Most health and human development indicators have shown no significant improvement beyond that which is normal in the midst of an oil boom. Indeed, some have deteriorated worryingly, and official estimates indicate that income inequality has increased. The "Chávez is good for the poor" hypothesis is inconsistent with the facts...."

From Michael Shifter, "In Search of Hugo Chavez," Foreign Affairs, May/Jun 2006: "..Chávez's policy ideas are mostly dubious. (Despite the record oil profits that are funding social spending, his initiatives have yielded only very modest gains.) His autocratic and megalomaniacal tendencies have undermined governance and the democratic process in Venezuela...."

Chavez censors the media:

"...In January 2010, RCTV International (RCTVI) and five other cable and satellite TV channels (TV Chile, Ritmo Son, Momentum, America TV and American Network) were ordered off the air. [by Hugo Chavez] These channels were criticised for failing to broadcast the presidential speech delivered on the occasion of the 52nd anniversary of the overthrow of Perez Jimenez...."

Excerpts from the 2006 Freedom House report on the lack of a free press in Chavez' Venezuela:

"...A hostile political atmosphere under the government of President Hugo Chavez has continued to affect the largely pro-opposition private media. One result has been a steady decline in press freedom over the past several years-a trend that continued in 2005-reflected in the government's enactment of legislation prohibiting the broadcast of certain material, its intimidation toward and denial of access to private media, and the continued harassment of journalists, directed primarily at those employed by private media outlets.

The legal environment for the press deteriorated in 2005 owing to two new restrictive laws that have increased the severity of punishments for desacato (disrespect) and expanded the "social responsibility" constraints for radio and television..."

Well done..!!!

Let me be more clear:
The poor are his main concern and progress has been made - he's been critical of his own slow progress and how hard it is to root out the corruption

Agreed: Compared to the way we live - Venezuela is a train wreck
But: There are many reports of progress - compared to 100 years of no progress prior to his election

 There - does that work..?

It would be more accurate to say that Chavez' rhetoric supports the poor than to say that he has actually helped the poor. This is flabbergasting considering Venezuela's massive oil revenues of the past decade. What will happen when they dry up? He has not only destroyed the economic infrastructure but failed to maintain the physical infrastructure as well. There will be no free enterprise left to rob to support the controlled entitlement economy.
