MISSOULA — University of Montana officials say medical marijuana is not allowed on campus, even if a person has a state-issued medical marijuana card.
School officials say federal law prohibits possession and use of marijuana and they're concerned allowing it on campus could jeopardize the school's federal funding.
Jim Lemcke, chief of public safety, says the school's policy hasn't changed and won't as long as marijuana is illegal under federal law.

I think you'll find that logic being used all over the country - until proper Federal Legislation regarding pot and it's usage and taxation - kicks in...
long over due, the tax revenue we're throwing away is amazing

There is, indeed, some merit in the comparisons with Prohibition.

Hell,
Let's legalize crack, meth, heroin and coke too....
Using clitorus's logic we'd have the national debt cured in no time.
Of course, there is the ONE little itty bitty flaw in that logic: These fuckers don't have JOBS.

College kids are resourceful bunch - they'll figure out ways to possess it either legally or otherwise.
Cleetus is right -huge opportunity for the Feds to legalize and tax a relatively benign drug. Potheads don't usually rob liquor stores, and I'd rather face a pothead than somebody whacked out on alcohol or prescription meds. I don't partake of the product, but if properly regulated it could be a windfall for the government coffers and keep some of the laced junk in check.

Wow.. I worry about you sometimes
Pot is remarkably safer and less harmful that alcohol - it's an argument long since established and determined
Just check auto accidents and hospital records for debate ending evidence
No I don;t smoke pot - I don't like the feeling at all... but it's a multi-billion dollar business that drug lords now collect the revenue on... I wish you would do some research on the "issue" and not just piss all over it

Cleets, for every piece of research that you produce showing how marijuana doesn't hurt anybody, I can show you 2 that show the negative health effects, drive, motivation, work-place safety, etc., etc., etc.
And before all you numbnuts who DO smoke pot start blathering on and on about "WAIT A SECOND THERE, JIZZFAN, I SMOKE POT AND I'M A PRODUCTIVE MEMBER OF SOCIETY!!!!!" I GET the fact that there are exceptions to every rule.
So, in closing, stick your "research" where the sun don't shine. Because once marijuana is legalized the tax revenue WILL BE like crack cocaine to the government...and if you think they'll stop at JUST legalizing marijuana you're nuttier than a fruitcake. They'll start picking off recreational drugs one at a time...

Probably do the same for alcohol and caffeine too, but I don't see many people working to outlaw those vices.

I agree with ya - I don't like trying to focus at work hungover and wouldn't want that from people who work for me. The folks who wake and bake would fall in the same category - our company has some pretty strict guidelines on working while under the influence, and I could see that covering the use of MJ. Some folks kick back with a few drinks at night, some get wild on the weekends and that's OK. If it starts impacting your ability to get your job done, then your employer has to take action. If you choose to use, you have to be responsible.

Legalizing or for that matter, unbanning will take all the fun out of it.

This isn't really surprising, considering the ENTIRE fucking campus is going to be tobacco free by 2011.

Will there be students locked inside their dorm rooms smoking chesterfields with a damp towel stuffed under the door?

Probably. And I suppose they'll have campus safety douches walking around checking peoples' lips for chew.

Might as well get used to it. That's the direction the country's headed in anyways, with the current leadership group.

Well, not as long as he's president. But, like everything else in DC, politicians would be "exempt" from the law anways.

I'm not emotional. I'm like this all the time.
And just because you don't AGREE with something doesn't make it "misinformation".
