I think Gates is worried about the lack of a political strategy vis-a-vis Iran, which could necessitate a military strategy. I'm sure Gates already has a pretty good idea how to attack Iran.

I would suggest that Reagan's political-military approach to the Soviet Union was fairly effective.

We were discussing whether there had been an effective political-military stategy since 1955. Cid1990's post implied that there had been several effective military strategies since 1955, but no effective political-military ones. I responded that Reagan's strategy against the Soviet Union was fairly effective in accomplishing the goals they set forth, and it was most definitely a political-military strategy. I in no way implied and anyone with two neurons to rub together would never read into what I said that in any way shape or form was it an endorsement of using said strategy in any situation we find ourselves in today. Stay out of the deep end of the pool MJ.
