When will this end?

Gay rights protesters handcuff themselves to WH fence on Pennsylavania Ave., and DC police close Pennsylvania Ave. and Lafayette Park to block the media's ability to report on the protest.

As the reporter appropriately said in the video, "This is outrageous".

Whoever ordered the park's closing should be fired. Blocking press access to report a peaceful protest is no less flagrant civil rights violation than beating passive protesters with batons.

Shameful day in modern U.S. history.

The constant intimidation and the way they aggressively treat straight people is in large part why nobody gives a fu*k about them wanting special treatment and laws put in place for them.

Anytime the White House property is breached, starting at the fence, the park area around it is shut down until the breach has been resolved. Pretty sure they did this last time Lt. Choi was arrested for chaining himself to the fence and anytime something like this happens. The park area around the White House gets closed all the time, I think the big stink that is being made here is that they 'pushed' the crowd/media back further than they normally would. They shut down a Tea Party rally the same way last year when one of the members "breached" the fence.

The two times I walked Pennsylvania Ave. (once under Clinton, and once under Bush-pre 9/11), there were protesters making a disturbance. In the Clinton incident, a woman who appeared to be "homeless" was sitting next to the fence trying to tie herself to it, while the police were attempting to remove her. Citizens walked around, and stood and watched, as the woman was being arrested. The police ignored the civilians even though some of the videotaped and photographed the incidents. PA was left open, as was the park.

There was NO THREAT to the public in yesterday's incident, and no need to close the park. This was censorship.

Agree - shameful censorship. Citizens of any stripe should be able to peacefully protest, and have it reported, if media want to cover it.

So it was censorship too the previous time they cleared the park for Lt. Choi's protest, censorship when they cleared out a Tea Party rally, censorship when the park was closed down at the start of "Operation Iraqi Freedom." BTW, CBS was the ONLY major network to cover this, and they only showed video of the protesters being handcuffed and placed in the paddy wagon; no discussion of the censorship.

This is what I warned about. The bad policy knife cuts both ways.

you said it right there. Pre-9/11. Security measures have changed since them. I have no problem with the area being closed if they feel theres a security breach but a credentialed member of the white house press corp shouldn't be pushed away even if the area is closed. That said I dont see how a person handcuffing themself to a fence is a security breach.
