I met an army of revolutionaries today

I arrived in San Cristobal de Las Casas in Chiapas, Mexico. I knew Chiapas was Zapatista country... but, I didn't know they let tourists visit their villages. They've only been letting outsiders in for about a year or so. A couple of guys in my hostel told me about it and we took a collectivo out to Caracol... one of their strongholds.
"You are in Zapatista territory. Here the people demand and the government obeys"
(Would make a catchy teabagger sign)
Went to their little administration building where we had to fill out surveys (who we are, why we're visiting, etc.). Told us the rules we had to follow while we were there. The big one was no pictures of people without their faces covered. They would confiscate your memory card, your camera, or throw you in jail (their jails are controlled by their army and the village, Mexico or the US Consulate probably couldn't do much to help you out).
It was a tiny little village, so not much to see. But, most of the buildings were decorated with gorgeous murals:
Anyway, probably one of the coolest experiences of my life. And I figured the other political junkies would find it interesting... whether you agree with their politics or not.

Here's more info on them if you're interested:

You're a braver man than I. Wouldn't catch me within 500 miles of that place.

No matter what you want to call it he has a cool and exciting experience that most don't.
One thing about doing stupid shit...it's almost always exciting, life affirming, and a pretty interesting and good story.

+1. But you have to agree that going makes a great story for the future and adds a little perceived heft to the ball-sack on KY.

Anarchist-Communists who use the arts to convey their political message, while imposing totalitarian control of speech and press?
Sounds like Sacramento.

Gotta watch out for those anarchist communists, they can't decide if they want all your stuff or not.
Sounds like them Zapatistas are your "state's rights" kind of people.

Nah, I doubt you would have ever seen Jefferson, Madison, Washington, etc. walking around in public with their faces covered.

Anti-authority rabble-rousers.
