I have faith in Arizona and this guy needs to be fired.
If your a cop your job is to enforce the law and if your not doing it there is only one possible outcome.
Thanks for the ill will though.

Considering that 70% of Arizonans (read - VOTERS) support this law, he won't have long to 'not enforce' the law. He'll soon be a greeter at the local Walmart.

While I understand and support the needs of the people of Arizona who support this law...I feel ultimately it will be found to be unconstitutional...
Having said that, if the law does go into effect, and this officer refuses to enforce it, he should be fired...his job is not to pick and chose laws, but to enforce them...

He probably doesn't have standing to challenge this law either. Although I'm not sure there is any direct authority on point.

Arizona is 3 for 3 in laws that were deemed "unconstitutional" by the liberal left when passed, but ultimately held up to the scrutiny.danefan wrote:+1Col Hogan wrote:While I understand and support the needs of the people of Arizona who support this law...I feel u;timately it will be found to be unconstitutional...

This happens to be one where they are correct IMHO...and the others they most likely were wrong because they "interpert" the Constitution so poorly...
There is no interpertation in my judgement that it's wrong...and I feel its the GOP in Arizona that is doing the poor interpertation this time...
If you stick to the very words of that powerful document and stop interpertating it...our country will return to greatness...otherwise, we're screwed big time...

I'm not "lumping" you in with anybody, big boy. I'm simply stating that the state of Arizona is 3 for 3 when it comes to laws being challenged for their "constitutionality". I wouldn't so readily count out this law just yet.Col Hogan wrote:Are you lumping me in with the "liberal left"...AZGrizFan wrote:

In a perfect world, California, New Mexico & Texas all follow suit with a similar law, lighting a fire under the federal government to actually enforce the law that's on their books.Col Hogan wrote:Since liberals are all about feelings...the liberal in me hopes you are correct (confused yet???)AZGrizFan wrote:

They'll probably just wait to see this test case get litigated first. But I say again, Texas, NM, Arizona and California have elected Federal officials. Where are they? Why aren't they representing their consitutuents? You say 70% of Arizona residents support this bill? Then why do they still vote for Senators and Representatives that do not force the issue in Congress?AZGrizFan wrote:In a perfect world, California, New Mexico & Texas all follow suit with a similar law, lighting a fire under the federal government to actually enforce the law that's on their books.Col Hogan wrote:

The feds are already feeling the heat over this. Napolitano is yacking about drones patrolling the Mexican border and the INS has been conducting immigration sweeps over the past few days. Obama is pathetic.

Re: Arizona officer sues over SB1070
The Canadian border is actually pretty well covered, at least on the East Coast. Its covered with night vision and thermal imaging cameras that automatically detect movement over the border and alert people sitting in Vermont at the control station. The people in Vermont then dispatch DHS officers to the exact location of the people trying to flee.
Anyone who comes in illegally on the NY/Canadian border gets brought down to Albany for the Northern District of NY Fed court. When I was in law school I spent a semester working with an immigration attorney. ( spent a lot of time that semester watching the videos of border jumpers getting caught. Some rather amusing actually.
The system works amazingly well to catch people. The DHS people in Vermont can literally pinpoint and watch the border jumpers exact location for the officers to track them down. The camera system is incredibly sophisticated.

Talk about "Wag The Dog"...I got a pdf copy of the draft Senate Democratic Conceptual Proposal for Immigration reform...AZGrizFan wrote:Wag the dog.CitadelGrad wrote:The feds are already feeling the heat over this. It's full of stuff that will cost us billions (where will that come from???)...but one line caught my eye...
I added the bold...have these folks not read the Constitution...because that line indicates to me that they think local and state governments today have the authority to enact "their own rules and penalties relating to immigration"...Upon enactment of this proposal, a bipartisan commission will be created and tasked with investigating the state of security on the southern and northern borders and issuing recommendations on additional resources, technology, manpower, and infrastructure that must be implemented to ensure complete operational control of the southern and northern borders within 12 months. Congress shall be required to vote on whether to enact the Commission’s recommendations. Because the federal government will have fulfilled its obligation to secure America’s borders, states and municipalities will be prohibited from enacting their own rules and penalties relating to immigration, which could undermine federal policies.
I don't know how to put up a pdf file for everyone to read...it's 26 pages, so too big to copy and paste here...if you now how I can hang it for everyone to see, PM me...

.... I'd hope those governing us would at least have an idea of the core principles that this country is run on. Apparently not, per your bolded section. Plus, isn't there something else that says something about a supremacy clause somewhere?
If you can find the PDF online via google search, there's usually an option for "quick view," so that you don't have to download the entire thing.
