CBO doubles some health care spending estimates

"The Congressional Budget Office has doubled the estimated increases of some costs resulting from the sweeping health care reform legislation passed this year.

A CBO report sent Tuesday to Rep. Jerry Lewis of California, the ranking Republican on the House Appropriations Committee, said the estimated rise in discretionary spending - which is spending requiring annual congressional authorization - over the first 10 years under the new legislation could exceed $115 billion.

On March 11, exactly two months earlier, the non-partisan CBO reported the estimated increase for discretionary spending could exceed $55 billion.

Douglas Elmendorf, the CBO director, said the latest report "updates and expands" on the previous report. He noted that assessing effects on discretionary spending was speculative because such appropriations require congressional action, and could be larger or smaller than initially anticipated.

The health care legislation was estimated by CBO to cost $940 billion over 10 years and reduce the federal deficit by $143 billion over the same period."

...but thankfully, Obama is saving America $3 trillion over what it would have cost had we not passed the Obamacare package...

Seriously, though...

...did anyone NOT expect there to be an increase in discretionary spending once the package was passed? :geek:

From day one, this has always been about developing the largest bureaucracy in our country's history, funding it with the bottomless taxpayer's wallet, then using those funds for political patronage...

...under the guise of "improving America's health"...

...which (akin to GW), facilitates the government's intrusion into every American's life...

...under the guise of "cost control".

Americans who voted for this socialism are morons.

Americans who allow their freedoms to be taken away are morons.

AZ was right. It's time to act.

VOTE

THEM

OUT

Then repeal all this crap and get America back on track.

Wait, so you have your panties in a wad over 55 billion..... OVER 10 YEARS? 5.5 billion a year?

So, it will only reduce the federal deficit by 87.5 billion. If you're pissed off about 5.5 billion a year spent... why aren't you happy about 87.5 billion in reduced deficit? :coffee:

Oh, wait... the CBO numbers on the deficit reduction aren't reliable.

Read the headline of the thread, jellybelly...this is just the beginning.

Please don't tell me you are so naive to believe that this abortion of a bill will actually save any money whatsoever. If you have any common sense, you know that this bill will end up costing 5-10-20 times more than what those idiotic "projections" say. Please find me any US government entitlement program that has come in at or under projected costs. I won't hold my breath while you frantically search for something you will never find.

I stand by my initial projection that this program will deliver HALF the promise at TWICE the cost, just like any good government program. This is just the first of many "adjustments". KY can shout to the rooftops that it's "still an $87 billion reduction", despite the fact that $55 billion in savings just evaporated with the stroke of a pen.

Fuckin' clueless, that's what you are, KY.

Sounds like a lot of minds are already made up... (or closed up) not sure if there's a difference..?

I am curious however: I can't imagine the bill not running WAY WAY over any projection or calculation as every single federal program does and always has... I give you the fucking department of retards, dipsh!ts and former mall cops...

I mean the Department of Homeland Security as a classic example of mediocrity at a very steep price...

But I am interested in the real numbers associated with the Health Care nightmare
I'm trying to stay "open"

Nice. As predicted Baldy and AZ believe these CBO numbers with all their heart... but, dismiss earlier ones that don't support their point of view.

Clueless.... :ohno:

Of course I don't believe these numbers. This entitlement program was deep in the red long before it was passed by our Parliament and signed by the Retard in Chief. However, it's not unlike you to totally get it wrong or to just simply misread, but it isn't $55 Billion over 10 years, it's $115 Billion over 10 years. When you do the subtraction, those so-called $143 Billion in savings proudly touted by The Chairman and his goons in the White House, has now all of the sudden dropped to a paltry "savings" of $28 Billion....FOR NOW.

The question now is...where is Obama? Henry Waxman? Pelosi? Reid? How come they aren't all over this? Where is CBS, NBC, ABC, and the other members of the media wing of the Donk Party? :?

Perhaps you weren't paying attention when we schooled you a couple months ago on this issue. We made it clear then that the CBO numbers were flawed, and that it was garbage in, garbage out. Now, AFTER THE BILL HAS BEEN PASSED, they'll begin "cleaning up the numbers" and lo and behold, this thing will ultimately perform like the turd that anyone witha brainstem knew that it was all along.

Guess that leaves folks like you shit outta luck, KY.

The CBO numbers are probably pretty accurate given the constraints they were working with. Still, that doesn't mean that the numbers are anywhere close to reality.
