Conn. Dem senate candidate caught in a major lie

About his military service........
At a ceremony honoring veterans and senior citizens who sent presents to soldiers overseas, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut rose and spoke of an earlier time in his life.
“We have learned something important since the days that I served in Vietnam,” Mr. Blumenthal said to the group gathered in Norwalk in March 2008. “And you exemplify it. Whatever we think about the war, whatever we call it — Afghanistan or Iraq — we owe our military men and women unconditional support.”
There was one problem: Mr. Blumenthal, a Democrat now running for the United States Senate, never served in Vietnam. He obtained at least five military deferments from 1965 to 1970 and took repeated steps that enabled him to avoid going to war, according to records.

Blumenthal campaign manager Mindy Myers released a statement late Monday night describing the Times story as "an outrageous distortion" although she did not deny the fact that the candidate had misled people about the nature of his service. Myers noted that Blumenthal will appear at a press conference tomorrow with Connecticut veterans.
Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee communications director Eric Schultz put the blame for the story on Republicans and, in particular, former World Wrestling Entertainment executive Linda McMahon who is running for the GOP nod.
"Its no surprise Republicans would want to smear Dick Blumenthal, considering all of the debauchery at [WWE] under Linda McMahon's watch," said Schultz.

FORMER WWE exec? When did she leave?
Besides, Linda was the only McMahon with any brains....

She left last year to run for this senate seat.

Thanks, dude. So THAT's why the WWE has sucked so much this year. They've signed WAY too many cr@p youngsters who have NOTHING on the old guys. Ugh!

Dung heap Harkin has lied repeatedly about his experiences in Vietnam and we are stuck with him so this probably won't be a big deal to Dems.

Nope. No big deal. The party has no moral values, so lying is perfectly acceptable.

Nate Silver is right when he says Dems need to make sure another major dem files before the deadline, the bench in CT is deep as he points out so dems should still be able to easily hold the seat.
