on several occasions, Blumenthal has referred to his service in Vietnam though he never actually served there.

"We have learned something important since the days I served in Vietnam," Blumenthal, a Democrat, told a veterans group in March 2008, the Times reported.

But the Times found that Blumenthal received five deferments from 1965 to 1970 while studying at Harvard and pursuing other educational and career opportunities. He finally landed a spot in the Marine Reserve that nearly guaranteed him that he wouldn't be sent to the war zone.

Maybe he THOUGHT Paris Island was Vietnam.

Bush was a weenie as far as I am concerned but he survived a hundred or so hours in the deadly F-102 Voodoo, which puts his macho-meter below combat vets but above anyone in the rear with the gear, even above many non-combat MOSs deployed to Vietnam.

Yes, lying Republicans exist, too. A prime example (who shall remain nameless) used to be on my hometown's city council (including a couple of terms as mayor, I believe) and our county's board of supervisors and had never lost an election (much less held a real job) until he got beat for the Assembly two years ago by one of my classmates going back to middle school. This pathological liar told whoppers left and right not only about his voting record but about my friend's upbringing. (He tried to insinuate that she was a "Bay Area liberal" even though she grew up under VERY poor circumstances in our very own town. In fact, his status as our town's sacred cow belies the fact that HE's the true outsider as he grew up in SoCal.) Yet local Republicans overlook the lies this so-called "Christain" blasts. Can't believe a word he says.

And, yes, I'm as conservative Republican as they come. THIS idiot will NEVER get MY vote, though.
