Staten Island GOP Nominates Disgraced Former Congressman

This story is of interest to me for sure because this involves the Congressional District I live in. This was probably a seat the GOP had atleast a shot at taking back with the GOP leaning Staten Island making up a large portion of the district with the rest of the district in the more democratic Southwestern section of Brooklyn but if Fossella is the nominee Mike McMahon will win re-election.

Disgraced ex-congressman Vito Fossella was gifted with a second chance last night.

In a surprise move, the Staten Island Republican Party nominated Fossella for his old congressional seat.

Fossella's political career was seemingly dead when a 2008 DWI arrest ultimately revealed that he had a secret second family in Virginia.

According to the Staten Island Advance, the committee voted overwhelmingly to endorse Fossella 23-4 over the two other candidates, Michael Allegretti and Michael Grimm.

While party chairman John Friscia claimed, "It is my firm belief that [Fossella] is the strongest candidate we can field," others were not so convinced.
