I understand the frustration...but really, isn't it rather late for the strong words...
And if BP does "get out of the way"...what are the feds going to do that BP hasn't???
And if the feds have a plan...WTF are they waiting for???

Did the Feds actually say this or use these "strong words"? Mind linking to a story... because I haven't heard of it and google doesn't turn up anything.

If I am BP I tell them to have at it.
The feds will just hire another oil company to do it because they cant even wipe their own ass efficiently.

Being that Haliburton is one of the ones responsible, no thanks.
And Alpha, what the fuck has BP done? They have made the situation far worse.
They need to get the fuck out of the way - they are incompetent. Time to NATIONALIZE OIL.

Not sure if anyone has the answer right now - other than keep drilling the relief well, and trying to siphon as much oil out of the current well as possible.
BP has lied/obstructed from day one. They don't deserve to be able to do business in the United States. The Fed should use the RICO statutes, and the laws used to seize assets from drug dealers to confiscate ALL of BP's assets in the United States, and abroad. BP should no longer be allowed to exist as a company. Their environmental and safety record is horrendous.

Let's nuke the spill. Of course I have no idea what the environmental repercussions will be, but what the hell, right?

Actually, Halliburton subcontracted to place the cement plugs and heavy mud. Once the Transocean-managed pressure testing was complete, Halliburton's only portion left was to remove the mud. The fault apparently lies with BP, as during the testing, the results were not as expected, and Halliburton objected to removing the mud, an assessment which Transocean supported, but was over-ridden by the BP supervisors on the rig that night.
This is BP's fumble, but it's reasonable to presume they will NEVER acknowledge that due to the enormous liability.
I know you like to demonize Halliburton at every opportunity, Jon, but they were just a subcontractor following orders.
BTW, if we nationalize, I'll wager the "carbon cata$trophe" $cam di$$appear$ overnight.

If this hack president tries to Nationalize Oil I hope there is blood in the streets, thats the last thing we need.
Go live in some other fu*ked up country like Cuba or Venezuela if you want absolute government control. We dont need it here in whats left of the best country on the planet.
We need less government not more and Obamas oil spill is further proof I am right.

Once again, Alpha proves his ignorance.
The events of the last few years have PROVEN BEYOND A DOUBT that the market needs MORE REGULATION, and that free markets, as espoused by you, Bush/Cheney are FAILURES.
The Wall Street meltdowns, Massey Murders, and the BP disaster are all the proof that I am right, and you sir, are quite wrong.

I disagree, these oil companies pay WAY more than their fair share in taxes so they should get a pass every 30 years or so.
It isnt like this happens a lot and its not like the Oil companies do this on purpose to wreck the environment and lose money everyday. It gets really old for you class warfare types to always bash the fu*k out of the companies that are employing people in spite of all your anti business rules and also paying the way for all the lazy fu*kheads in this country that WONT work.

No wonder the feds have been slow to react
Obama or McCain, not much change...............

President Barack Obama's campaign was the top recipient of BP employees' money in the 2008 election: $71,000.
The other top recipients of BP employee 2008 election-giving both sit on the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, one of the panels investigating the spill. Obama's GOP presidential rival, Sen. John McCain of Arizona, received $37,000. And $16,000 went to a senator whose state is on the receiving end of much of the spilled oil, Democrat Mary Landrieu of Louisiana, according to figures compiled by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics.

Wait... so Obama (who raised around $500 million in the 2008 election) is letting BP get away with the oil spill over $71,000. The majority of that money is small contributions from regular employers.

Sweet conspiracy theory, dobie.

I live in Louisiana and it seems like every plan that the State of Louisiana comes up with to try to block the oil from reaching the beaches and marshes, the Federal bureaucracy blocks. People are getting pretty frustrated with the Feds.

If I was Jindal I'd do it anyway and dare the feds to throw me in jail. Barry doesn't want those kind of headlines.

It doesn't have to happen a lot and it doesn't matter if it's an accident. You make a mess you clean it up, period.

"...far worse" than before there were two million gallons per day of crude oil spewing into the Gulf around the clock for several months.
I don't think we need to go as far as nationalizing oil.
Just nationalize the refineries. National security.
