I bashed Bush, and I'll bash this turd as well. He ought to be in the second or third week of a vacation on the Louisiana coastline right about now. Obama missed a golden opportunity to show that he is making sacrifices and has the pulse of the common people. Imagine him on the beach, tanning oil on hand...on foot...on the blanket...on his children...the beach, the TV reporters...the wildlife...just a wonderful photo opportunity and a way to increase Gulf coast tourism.

Wonder what SPF crude oil is rated? Coppertone and Hawaian Tropic should be down there collecting the stuff by the boat load.

I honestly don't see how this is going to exacerbate the oil leak in any way. I wasn't particularly bothered by Shrub's vacationing, either. He probably took too much of it, but I don't know if not doing so could have made him much more effective of a POTUS.

Barack's way ahead of you, bill, it's you that don't get it. If he pisses off BP they'll buy a different President and do it with the blessing of the Supreme Court.

Talk about not getting it................Maybe he needs a vacation as we all do! What do you expect him to do. Grab a rag and start mopping up! Grape a snipers rifle and shot at terrorists?

The real question is what is Congress doing for the Holiday? I know some of them will be getting drunk (like some of us), many will be off on wondrous vacations thanks to lobbyists and many others will be at strip clubs having "party meetings"!

You do realize this is his first vacation in months - taking a couple of days in Chicago, no biggie.

He is spending Memorial Day at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery

He definitely made a political mistake with the oil spill situation.

But lets be honest here. Do you guys think the President is ever really on vacation? Just because he's not taking official meetings, doesn't mean he's just chilling out drinking a beer and smoking a cigar in his backyard.

The guy is working 24/7, 365 for 4 or 8 years straight, no matter who is in office.

But like you said, how a guy, during a defining moment like this in his presidency, isn't down on the beach in Forrest Gump land sticking a gloved hand in some oil is beyond baffling. He just didn't step up, for his own PR if nothing else. He missed a free 10 point bump in approval by not getting out of the White House two weeks ago.

That's exactly why I don't get really uptight about these guys taking a few days here and there. Even when Bush was spending time at the ranch I don't think there's a huge amount of downtime. Even then he was out clearing brush (the old lady put him to work ).

As far as kicking back smoking a cigar and having a beer, he does do that (but he's normally brokering peace between a Cambridge police officer and a Harvard professor).

On the other hand, it's not like these guys don't have some idea just how crammed their schedules will be and how little privacy they will have for the rest of their lives upon attaining the office. If you want to work 25/8, good by me but don't sign me up for it.

Exactly. The other baffling thing is why Obama never gave Jindahl permission to build the sand berms like he asked. It would have cost nothing and made him look Presidential, decisive and bipartisan. But noooooo. Now Obummer just looks detached, incompetent, indecisive and hyper-partisan. What a stupid and irresponsible fvck-up.

Same with GW, who should have shown up immediately in shirt sleeves and opened up a command center to which he invited Blanco and Nagin. But noooooo.

Jeb knows how to do these things. He showed up immediately in shirt sleeves for all three hurricanes that hit Florida in the same year.

Bush was in Crawford for many of the defining moments of his presidency. Not sure it matters WHERE the President is....just that he's doing his job effectively, which Obama clearly is NOT.
