BP bused in 100s of temp workers for Obama visit

Perhaps you saw news footage of President Obama in Grand Isle, La., on Friday and thought things didn't look all that bad. Well, there may have been a reason for that: The town was evidently swarmed by an army of temp workers to spruce it up for the president and the national news crews following him.
Jefferson Parish Councilman Chris Roberts, whose district encompasses Grand Isle, told Yahoo! News that BP bused in "hundreds" of temporary workers to clean up local beaches. And as soon as the president was en route back to Washington, the workers were clearing out of Grand Isle too, Roberts said.
"The level of cleanup and cooperation we've gotten from BP in the past is in no way consistent to the effort shown on the island today," Roberts said by telephone. "As soon as the president left, they were immediately put back on the buses and sent home."
Roberts says the overnight contingent of workers was there mainly to furnish a Potemkin-style backdrop for the event — while also making it appear that BP was firmly in command of spill cleanup efforts.

The idiocy of this whole situation has become quite amazing, and the sad thing is that either a) the administration knew about this, or b) they're stupid enough to keep falling for BP's crap.
Seriously, this should've been taken care of earlier. This is absolutely BP's fault, but the government should have intervened as soon as possible...help BP out at first and if they turn out to be completely useless (as they pretty much have), then take over the whole operation. This country is full of talented chemists, scientists, and engineers...something BP seems to lack. After everything is all said and done, we should've billed BP for the cost.

I heard about this on local radio coming home from work today. At that point they didn't know who did it but it hacked some people off; no doubt.

Some real sad bullshit with all this posturing going around. It would be real nice if all involved here would get some real work done on this instead of the facade of work.

Believe me: An awful lot of real work is being done.

You're right about that. BP and their contractors have a long history of hiring illegals.

Funny thing: That was what crossed my mind first... I was thinking "Well he deserved that" because it seems like something Obama would do - he's so image oriented
However: They do need a huge percentage of their assets frozen - that will get their attention...
Next: Corporations do rule the world because they control the money

You said illegal! You hate mongering bigot. How dare you criticize the downtrodden.
They only want a better life. Especially since those bastards from Central America are displacing all the hard working Mexicans and forcing them to come to America.
They should have stolen your bike and beaten you with it...ahole.

Pretty sure I've always said on here that I'm against illegal immigration. I don't support people coming here illegally. Yet... y'all always try to paint me as welcoming illegals. I don't get it.

Not painting you as anything Skjell, just being a dork and flipping crap. Like I give a shit if illegals are called exactly that, illegals.
