Obama: "Don't make excuses"

Just when you think Obama couldn't get any more detached from reality...

Obama To High School Grads: Don't Play The Blame Game, "Make Excuses"

"The truth is, no matter how hard you work, you won’t necessarily ace every class or succeed in every job. There will be times when you screw up, when you hurt the people you love, when you stray from your most deeply held values.

And when that happens, it’s the easiest thing in the world to start looking around for someone to blame. Your professor was too hard; your boss was a jerk; the coach was playing favorites; your friend just didn’t understand. We see it every day out in Washington, with folks calling each other names and making all sorts of accusations on TV.

This community could have easily gone down that road. You could have made excuses – our kids have fewer advantages, our schools have fewer resources, so how can we compete? You could have spent years pointing fingers – blaming parents, blaming teachers, blaming the principal or the superintendent or the government."

You just can't make this sh!t up.

How is that detached from reality? Hypocritical, possibly. Detached from reality? No. I mean what do you expect him to say to a bunch of high school graduates? "Kids go out there and everytime you mess up it's ok, just come up with an excuse." That'd be detached from reality.

He knows what he's doing...he's a politician. We live reality, they know it. They know it inside out and they know how to play its game. That's why they're in the position they're in.

Wow. That is misleading as fuck. He wasn't telling them to make excuses.

HE WAS SAYING THE EXACT OPPOSITE.

He was applauding them for NOT making excuses and feeling sorry for themselves. The part you quote:
This community could have easily gone down that road. You could have made excuses – our kids have fewer advantages, our schools have fewer resources, so how can we compete? You could have spent years pointing fingers – blaming parents, blaming teachers, blaming the principal or the superintendent or the government.
The part directly following... that you and your video leaves off:
But that’s -- Class of 2010, I want you to pay attention on this because that’s not what happened. Instead, this community was honest with itself about where you were falling short. You resolved to do better, push your kids harder, open their minds wider, expose them to all kinds of ideas and people and experiences.

So, graduates, I hope you’ll continue those efforts. Don’t make excuses. .
Here's the whole speech... if anyone cares to read it...

This is weak as hell. He's sending a good message to high school graduates and you completely take his words out of context to make it sound like he's saying THE EXACT OPPOSITE of what he's really saying.

He's detached in the way that he most likely believes the crap he says. I very seriously doubt he gets the irony and hypocrisy of his comments. :?

Wow, KY...time to quit swimming in the Kool-Aid pool.

The only one dong any twisting is you. Read the title of the thread: Obama: "Don't make Excuses".

You are missing the hypocrisy. He is telling these kid not to point the finger, not to blame the other person, but the fact is Obama has been pointing the finger and blaming Dubya for EVERYTHING that has gone wrong in his 17 months in office.

Sorry fella, it's not that hard to figure out. :ohno:

Way off Alpha.

It's not Obama's intelligence that's in question. It's his latent marxism. :thumb:

I don't know if you edited the thread title or if I just misread it. If I misread it, I apologize.

The video title is misleading without a doubt, though.

Quite the opposite. I'd bet infinity dollars that he doesn't believe most of the crap he says. He's a smart man...he very much gets the irony and hypocrisy of his comments. But as long as "they" believe it, he doesn't have to. The politician detached from reality is the politician out of office.

I can't believe that Mr. "It's All George's Fault" told a bunch of kids not to make excuses.

Egad!

Still, the title of the video is not misleading at all. You're just focusing on the "Make Excuses" part. Read it again, "Obama to High School Grads: Don't play the Blame Game, Make Excuses....etc,

Yes, Baldy's thread has always been fine, the blog post/title he linked to is definitely misleading and I had to find an AP story just to make sure I had it all correct before I started grabbing clips from the Obama excuse vault.

Nah, he is a much too rigid of an ideologue. With an approval rate of 44%, if an election were held today, he would most likely be out of office. The fact is Obama makes stupid statements that leave you shaking your head sometimes. I remember an interview he gave not long ago where he stated that he would rather be a great 1 term president than a mediocre or average 2 term president. Excuse me, but duhhhh.

And interestingly enough, he'll end up neither.
