Conks, Conks, Conks, Conks.......Shame.

In an interview with POLITICO, the president said: “I think it’s fair to say, if six months ago, before this spill had happened, I had gone up to Congress and I had said we need to crack down a lot harder on oil companies and we need to spend more money on technology to respond in case of a catastrophic spill, there are folks up there, who will not be named, who would have said this is classic, big-government over-regulation and wasteful spending.”

“Some of the same folks who have been hollering and saying ‘do something’ are the same folks who, just two or three months ago, were suggesting that government needs to stop doing so much,” Obama said. “Some of the same people who are saying the president needs to show leadership and solve this problem are some of the same folks who, just a few months ago, were saying this guy is trying to engineer a takeover of our society through the federal government that is going to restrict our freedoms.”

He's absolutely right. Let's hear the spin Conks.

Yeah, he's right. But I wonder what would've happened if he'd have gone up and said, "We need to enforce existing regulation?" Maybe enforceing existing regulation would've prevented it.

Probably not though.

And I really doubt that a scenario in which Congress passed additional laws to "crack down" on oil exploration companies would've prevented what happened either. When you have people out there who see pieces of rubber blowout protection seal coming up with drillilng mud and they say it's no big deal I don't think a law would change things. Only law that would address that would be to station Federal personnel on rigs to constantly watch what's going on and I doubt that would've happened. It might happen NOW because of what occurred. But I really doubt if that would've happened in any effort to "crack down" on oil companies that might've been initiated before.

Me, I can't believe someone who values their own life would just shrug off seeing pieces of seal come up. I think we've all heard that there were all sorts of other things going on too. Boggles my mind that people in charge there weren't more concerned about things just from a self-preservation standpoint.

 Amen.

Nothing funnier than hearing so-called conservatives bleating for government intervention.

Too many suits on the rig making safety decisions from an accounting perspective. Dumb squats deserved what they got.

Incredible...

It's strange how the President of the United States could be so out of touch with reality. Either that or he is just plain ignorant. Chairman Obama, it has nothing to do with putting more regulation on oil companies. Putting more regulation is virtually impossible because the clowns who are supposed to be doing the regulating now aren't doing their jobs. You don't need to crack down on the oil companies, you need to crack down on the bureaucrats and politicians who have been letting the oil companies sneak by the regulations with a nod and a wink, and of course a campaign contribution or two.

And I won't even get started on how the NIMBY and the Environazi bastards are just as guilty. :ohno:

Strange, but evidently true, since he hasn't yet frozen BP's assets or thrown their board of directors in prison.

If I'm right the sad thing is it wasn't the suits that got it. It was the grunts. Guys like this:

Well, we do still have that inconvenient little Constitution thingy standing in The Chairman's way.

Though that hasn't stopped him before, either. :ohno:

In a Kerry-like reversal of opinion, he was against it before he was for it...

From August 2008, when he was a candidate:

From March 2010, after being in office and accepting campaign and lobby contributions from big oil:

My son was just telling me he saw a story describing a situation in which there was a heated argument between a senior Transocean guy on the rig and a Senior BP guy. He said it had to do with pressure readings they were getting. He said the BP guy prevailed and a few hours later the rig went up. I need to research that and see if I can find the story. Or if somebody already has the link maybe they can post it.

It's sad because that Transocean rig had an excellent safety record. But it was contracted by BP and it sounds like maybe BP pushed the Transocean staff into doing things they normally wouldn't do and/or not doing things they normally would do.

It's like you can make a law against speeding but people are still going to speed. You can make safety rules but if you're not right there looking over everybody's shoulder all the time somebody's going to break them.

I think Anderson Cooper had a panel on it last night or the night before.

President Buckwheat needs to STFU. He's in over his head and isn't fit to be the POTUS.

Obama's statement include a lot of "ifs" and "would haves". He's an empty suit, without substance, without judgment, without experience, without leadership skills, and without eloquence when without a teleprompter.

What is there to get? That Obama is a Chicago style corrupt President? He is in bed with whoever will give him a kickback, including BP.

If he was a real man, he would have plugged the hole by now, but he has sat around with his thumb up his ass because he can't copy GW on this one, unlike all his unoriginal antiterror policies.

Shows the guy was the wrong person to elect. Absolutely incompetent and has no connection with the American people.

You mean the folks that were yelling "GET YA HANDS OFF MY MEDICARE"?

Which, even as a Conservative, I have never gotten behind the Tea Party theory. If they couldn't have protested from 2000-2008, why start now?

Obama is a liar. He won't make it to 2012 (impeachment) and if he does he won't run. He's way over his head.

The seven experts who advised President Obama on how to deal with offshore drilling safety after the Deepwater Horizon explosion are accusing his administration of misrepresenting their views to make it appear that they supported a six-month drilling moratorium -- something they actually oppose.

The experts, recommended by the National Academy of Engineering, say Interior Secretary Ken Salazar modified their report last month, after they signed it, to include two paragraphs calling for the moratorium on existing drilling and new permits.

Salazar's report to Obama said a panel of seven experts "peer reviewed" his recommendations, which included a six-month moratorium on permits for new wells being drilled using floating rigs and an immediate halt to drilling operations.

"None of us actually reviewed the memorandum as it is in the report," oil expert Ken Arnold told Fox News. "What was in the report at the time it was reviewed was quite a bit different in its impact to what there is now. So we wanted to distance ourselves from that recommendation."

Salazar apologized to those experts Thursday.

The difference between me and my ilk and you and your ilk, Griz-the-Hallway, is that if the shoe were on the other foot and Bush's cabinet Secretary had done such an underhanded and irresponsible deed, we would be embarrasssed and pissed at our own man.
