NPR sponsored a study of the 60 most competitive Democrat House races and the 10 most competitive Republican House races, Repubs came out on top in both Dem-leaning and Repub-leaning districts and swept the board by significant margins on a variety of policy questions with one exception. Voters still blame Bush more than Obama for the economy.

An article by Kyle Trygstad on the Real Clear Politics web site discusses the NPR study:

"The results are a wake-up call for Democrats whose losses in the House could well exceed 30 seats..."

"In the Democratic districts ... just 34% said they would vote to re-elect their representative ... 56% said they will not vote to re-elect their representative because new people are needed to fix Washington ...when both the Democratic and Republican candidates were named, 47% said they'd vote for the Republican and 42% chose the Democrat. Also tested were the 10 most competitive Republican districts, where 53% say they'll vote for the GOP candidate and 37% for the Democrat...."

"Messaging will also be a problem for Democrats.... 'We tested Democratic and Republican arguments on the economy, health care, financial reform and the big picture for the 2010 election. The results consistently favored the Republicans and closely resembled the vote breakdown.' ..."

Now there's the problem. Not that I am dead set in favor of two parties, corporations, or unions, but the more government we impose and the farther we get from the Constitution, with only a tiny handful of notable exceptions, the more we fvck things up. In this case, more is not better.

The best scenario would be for each party to win 217 seats. Then the other guy/gal refuses to vote for either parties selection for Speaker and they spend the entire 2 year session trying to resolve this problem. At least while they are busy with this they will leave the rest of us alone. Fanciful to be sure but we live and hope.

Won't matter when it comes to some legislation such as cap and tax

I was listening to some economist being interviewed on Bloomberg Radio a little while ago. He said the best result we can hope for is gridlock. Not a bad point. I have no confidence in either party. The less this government does, the better. Virtually everything they touch turns to shit -- expensive shit.
