A Chinese View of Guns in America

Two recent Supreme Court rulings on the 2nd Amendment have reignited the debate in this country on private gun ownership...the rulings have reaffirmed the belief of some that the Framers of the Constitution intended the 2nd Amendment to be an individual right, not subject to revocation by state or local governments...

Recently, I found an interesting site called ChinaSmack ( http://www.chinasmack.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) which claimed to offer "non-Chinese readers an insight into the world's largest internet market by translating and reporting popular Chinese internet news, trends, and phenomenon as well as Chinese netizen comments, opinions, and reactions."

I came across a page entitled "How Guns Are Sold In American Wal-marts, Chinese Reaction"...Pretty interesting stuff....

Some of them really do get it...
The reason why America allows the ordinary people to possess guns is to prevent dictatorship…when that happens, the people can revolt…
Over time, Americans have developed the habit of not using guns even if they have them. Or maybe they are bound by ideas of individual heroism, believing that men should use fists to fight it out, and not relying on guns.
But in our country, the once proper so quick to resort to taking up knives, if there were guns, definitely within 10 years, the population of Chinese people would probably be reduced by half…haha.
Others have little confidence in their own society...
Only with citizens who have high restraint and a society with relatively few injustices would [a country] dare be like this.

Very interesting insights from a society very few of us have much knowledge about...

Odd.

I thought all Chinese that is found on the internet meant, loosely translated, "Me love you long time".

While I fully support the 2nd Amendment, its usefulness ends at self defense, IMHO. I just don't see this country having the makeup to ever rally for a common cause like it did in the late 18th century. We have too many segments of the population that think they are owed something rather than believing they have to earn anything. There's also too many that would use a crisis as an opportunity to get back at the groups that they perceive have done better than them or kept them down. This country would fight itself before it would rally against an undermining force.

So our measly guns are going to be a match for the American War Machine?

And if the military is on the side of American citizens then how exactly is a dictator going to rise to power?

If it ever got to that point of chaos, do you think American servicemen are going to stay at their post and blast their countrymen? I know I wouldn't.

Yes, because we all know it has never happened before...
