Border fence design blasted as causing flooding

Environmentalists say flooding caused by a new border security fence in southwestern Arizona shows the structure is being built too quickly and without regard for the environment.

Critics say the design of the border fence caused debris and water backup during a July 12 storm that led to flooding at the port of entry at Lukeville and Sonoyta, Mexico, and at the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument.

"One of the reasons for it was the debris that accumulated on the fence itself," said Lee Baiza, superintendent of the monument, a 517-square-mile lush desert tract overseen by the National Park Service.

http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/ ... 25-on.html

But the recent monument report said its own staff had raised concerns last year over the fence-building plans, based on knowledge of local flash flooding.

The July 12 storm dumped as much as 2 inches of rain in about 90 minutes in the area, and water running through washes on the monument backed up as debris piled along the base of the fence.

It created pools up to seven feet deep and flows several hundred feet wide that eroded some areas along patrol roads. The waters even scoured some fence and vehicle barrier foundations.

Why don't they just lift the fence two feet off the ground to let the water run underneath it? That's what flood control did to ME when I built my pool....

No one seriously thinks this "fence" is going to STOP the illegals from coming across, do they?

Yum...Tman bait...

Okey Dokey Folkey...

1) Use prison labor to keep debris away from fence area.
2) Build culverts for drainage/runoff management in problem areas.
3) Fire the whiners at the Monument who feel they have the right to work against their own government/employer.
4) Nut kick everyone who feels stopping construction rather than fixing the problem is the correct solution.

(...that's why I get paid the big bucks... 8-) )

1) Can we hire the Chinese prison labor, now available since the Olympics are over?
2) So you are admiting the Bush Admin did a shitty job in the first place
3) So you are fine with governmental incompetance, and wish to punish those who seek to expose it?
4) Nut kick anyone that supports this idiotic idea in the first place, because it only wastes money, trashes the environment, and solves nothing.

1) Prison labor's cheaper than Border Patrol, who just get shot at, then falsely accused, arrested and prosecuted by both the U.S. and Mexican governments, merely because they actually DID THEIR JOB!!!!!
2) If you're implying that the problems arose from an accelerated construction schedule, then that may absolutely be the case. Any implication that the design faults should somehow be attributed to Bush is mere monkey sputem. Every project has complications and design changes. And after sitting around on our hands for 25 years doing nothing and allowing the illegal immigrant growth to tap into our social programs, thereby depleting national resources which could be better spent on the citizens who pay the taxes, and the "10%" of our society that genuinely needs assistance, education, etc., isn't it about time we actually get off our asses and do something for a change? You know, Jon, maybe if our programs WEREN'T operating beyond their budgetary capacity, there'd be less resistance from capitalists like myself who have been opposed to the same sex marriage amendments. As much of the same sex work "benefit" expense would emanate from government jobs, if govt. had more Gen. Fund capacity, some of these negotiable issues could be mitigated if we weren't paying for an additional 40 million illegals.
3) As for the Monument's monkeys, based on what I read, it appeared they (as with most of those bitching like menopausal women about the fence) have pro-illegal immigrant agendas. Rather than bitching about everything, here's a notion: They should shut the hell up until they can offer a better solution. Oh, and BTW, if they worked in the private sector and had publicly criticized their employer in the press, they would be unemployed the next day. There's nothing honorable about what those chimps did.
4) So, what's the alternative, dback? An open door policy? More Border Patrol agents for the Piece of Shat border area D.A.'s to persecute? A moderated (managed) immigration system, with and exponential increase in enforcement?

Wait...

D1B has the solution...

Eliminate religion in the U.S....

No more Catholicism...

No more churches...

No worship...

No Sunday morning tamales...

No catychism...

No place to confess & absolve your sins...

No more church sponsored sanctuary for illegals who have committed and capital offense and are awaiting tranport back to Mexico so they can escape the death penalty...

Dang...I think the D1B "Ban All Religion" plan might solve the immigration problem.

Hate to say it, but T-man's right. It's just a shame we don't have, I don't know, a military-like organization to help patrol our borders....something like a national domestic army...no, better yet, call it a national guard maybe......wait a minute........ :o

I wasn't aware Ron Paul had invented the National Guard. Carry on.

Anyways, they're busy defending the nation of Iraq right now....they're busy.

Not what I meant PFL.....he wanted to bring the National Guard home from defending the fine citizens of Iraq and, I don't know, maybe use our national guard to guard our national border...but, you're right, they are too busy currently maintaining the status quo and by fiat from our government....

Not true. There is value in some religions. There is little value in catholocism. There is a higher power, it aint IMO the dickhead mass murderer as described in the bible.
