A Mexican drug cartel has reportedly put a hefty price tag on the head of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

As parts of Arizona's immigration law, SB 1070, went into effect last week, a Mexican drug cartel sent out text and audio messages offering rewards to anyone who would join its fight, a source who says his wife received the message told MyFoxPhoenix.com.

"It's offering a million dollars for Sheriff Joe Arpaio's head and offering a thousand dollars for anyone who wants to join the Mexican cartel," the man, who wants to remain anonymous, told the station.

The instructions included directions to pass the message along and listed an international phone number, MyFoxPhoenix.com reported.

The man reported the message to the Sheriff’s Department, which says it believes the message originated in Mexico and could be credible. But even if the message isn’t authentic, Lisa Allen of the Sheriff's office told MyFoxPhoenix.com, it could still pose a threat.

So who are the cartels selling the stuff to? Americans? So that makes Americans guilty of empowering the cartels. Sick. The cartels are pissed that their mules can't get into the U.S. to their distributers..i.e. drug selling slime, so they put a bounty out on a sheriff? Sick. Doing drugs doesn't just hurt "you" it also has sad indirect consequences like this. Glad I don't have to wake up every morning with that on my mind.

I wonder if "drug" users in the Netherlands or Portugal sleep well at night. Would their pro-criminalization and law enforcement people feel guilty for all of the bloodshed if drugs were made illegal again?

Seems like the cartels have an itch to scratch with a particular U.S. sheriff..hence the statement. Don't know what foreign countries have to do with this article..maybe the cartels are going after foreign sheriffs too Just looks like a regional thing to me..but who knows.

Sounds like Sheriff Joe is a little miffed at other sheriff departments for staging gunfights and stealing his thunder.

The Federal government needs to do their job and seal the border.

They could solve the problem overnight if they really wanted to, just pick six of the biggest employers of illegals and throw them in prison for a couple of years. Problem is them illegals pay a lot of sales tax that towns don't want to lose.

Or they could follow the fucking law and seal the border and protect this country. There are many way they could solve this problem its not that hard.

You can make the argument that the cities wouldn't need the revenue from the sales tax if there wasn't a surplus in population due to illegals. That argument doesn't hold up for me.
